Last year, photos of a starving 7-year-old boy named Ryan in a Bulgarian orphanage struck the hearts of many. But no one was more affected than Tennessee mom Priscilla Morse, who spotted them on Facebook.
Ryan, who weighed only 8 pounds at the time, was suffering from not only malnutrition, but also had an assortment of conditions like cerebral palsy and scoliosis. And after Morse traveled to the orphanage to rescue him and bring him to a hospital, the problems didn't stop there.
Morse said, "I had never in my life seen doctors look at a child and burst into tears. They did call social services. They said, 'I'm sorry, he's probably going to die.'"
Despite the harrowing diagnosis, Ryan has not only survived but thrived in the year that he's lived with Morse and her family.
Thanks to her tender love and care, he gained 15 pounds and is now able to say words. He even got enrolled in the third grade.
And at the end of the day, this before-and-after transformation of the happy little boy really speaks for itself.
