This husband's actions have definitely made him a candidate for "husband of the year" in our eyes--and you'll love the reason why.
PJ Spraggins' wife, Tracy, was six years old when she was first diagnosed with lupus, a chronic inflammatory disease which affects her kidney functions. She was placed on the transplant list in 2013--just a few months after her 34-year-old sister, who also had lupus, died following complications from a kidney transplant--but was thrilled to learn that her husband was a perfect match.
The next day, however, the couple were dealt a devastating blow: PJ's blood pressure was too high to perform the operation. Tracy would have to remain on the waiting list, which can take up to seven years to find a match.
But PJ refused to accept that fate.
He embarked on a year-long journey to get healthy, learning to make better food choices and include more exercise in his lifestyle. At one point, after losing 30 pounds, his blood was tested again and he was told to lose more weight.
Finally, in December 2014, the couple got the green light. PJ had done everything in his power to make sure his blood pressure readings were perfect--and lost a total of 70 pounds. In February 2015, they went under the knife together.
"It has just been amazing," PJ told Daily Mail. "To know that I did everything I could to give my wife a better quality of life is just the best feeling. I am so happy."
