Every year we count down to the holidays because it means we can forget our diet for a few weeks and enjoy good food with friends and family. Unfortunately, the holidays also signal the start of the annual neighborhood Christmas lights competition. No matter how cold it is, we trudge outside with ladders and boxes of tangled lights. In the moment it can feel pretty miserable. But one Michigan woman has solved all our lighting woes with her genius Christmas hack.
With only a few strings of light and some plywood, 34-year-old Jami Kelly stole the neighborhood show with her simple light display. Inspired by some Internet Christmas decorating shortcuts, Kelly took the lights and spelled a short, five-letter word: Ditto.
“We started doing lights and then we said, ‘You know what, screw it,’ ” Kelly told the Detroit News. “We can’t compare. Nothing measures up.”
With the help of neighbor Ryan Brown, it only took the pair about four hours to make the sign.
"All my neighbors think it’s hilarious," said Kelly, including her more festive neighbors. She's nicknamed them the "Griswolds" after the family in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
