Sometimes, miracles emerge in the midst of tragedies. In the case of Britt Harris's beloved husband dying while he was deployed in Afghanistan, it was the couple's baby.
Just one week before 25-year-old Chris's death due to an improved explosive device, Britt had told her husband that they were expecting their first child together. The North Carolina woman had even decorated a special onesie for their baby when she told him the happy news over FaceTime.
“When I told him, it was the happiest I’d ever seen him,” said 26-year-old Britt Harris. "He was so excited."
Even though Britt now is faced with raising their child on her own, she is much more concerned about her late husband's fellow soldiers, whom he called his "brothers."
“I’m dealing with a lot and grieving but I got to take off work and go to counseling, but they didn’t get to,” she said. “I didn’t want them to be forgotten over there."
So in the midst of her grief, she found a special way to keep Chris's military family close to the baby.
“I asked if they’d like to be the first to know the gender and they were really excited,” she said. “I told them I would ship confetti poppers or something and they could be the first to know and feel included.”
This was clearly a cause for celebration, as the soldiers filmed themselves opening the poppers in front of an American flag. The video, now going viral online, was especially emotional and special for Britt.
“I probably watched it 100 times myself,” she said. “I was crying but smiling because their reaction was so wonderful.”
Beautiful! We can't wait until the couple's "miracle princess," Christian Michelle Harris, is finally welcomed into the world.
