The simple way to be offered hundreds more for yours: Simply clean it, reset the trip odometer to zero and fill the tank with gas, advises Matt Jones, senior consumer advice editor for Edmunds.com. “These give the perception that your vehicle has been well-maintained.” And don’t waste your hard-earned dollars on professional detailing. “This makes it look like you’re making up for years of neglect, which can actually lower the price you’re offered.”

Boost profits by 25 percent on summer gear.

Get more for coolers and other warm-weather gear by listing them now on a marketplace site, such as Facebook Marketplace or OfferUp.com. “On average, summer-related items will sell for anywhere between 7 percent and 25 percent more than when sold in winter,” says Natalie Angelillo, vice president of community and communications at OfferUp. Her tip for attracting buyers: “Use more relevant keywords to describe the item, which will help your listing show up on more searches.” For example, a cooler can also be called an ice chest or cool box.

Using a consignment shop to sell yard furniture means you don’t have to store bulky items until you find a buyer — but act fast! Their sales spike in the summer, then grind to a halt in the fall, says Ken Gulledge of Upscale Consignment Furniture & Decor in Scottsdale, Arizona. And to get more for yours, he advises giving it a deep clean. “The better it looks, the faster it will sell. And since most consignment stores discount items every month if they haven’t sold, you can make 10 percent to 20 percent more if it sells right away.”
