Baltimore mom Shanda Flemming signed a permission slip for her third grader to get what she thought was routine teeth cleaning by a dental program visiting his school. But she said she didn't know the school would allow serious dental work.
That is, until her 9-year-old son Michael came home with three of his teeth missing. Then, her inspiring mama bear instincts kicked in instantly.
Shanda said her boy had a swollen mouth, and was even brought to tears by the pain.
"I’m angry about this," Shanda said. "I don’t think that it should have happened like that."
Baltimore City Schools has declined requests for comment, due to HIPPA and privacy concerns. But Shanda is still on the mission to protect her child, even if it means asking again and again for answers.
"I just don’t understand how a school or a company can take it in their hands to do something like this to a child," Shanda said.
