Woman’s Weight Balloons After Breakup, But She’s the Winner After Losing 100 Pounds

When Patricia Wilson found herself in an unhappy relationship, she did what a lot of us do: She started comfort eating. But after she and her partner finally split, Patricia took control over her diet, and today, she’s 100 pounds lighter.

“I was completely miserable and I just wanted to find my happiness again; being that size, I was not happy at all,” Patricia told TODAY. “The motivation was just feeling good in my own skin and feeling happy and wanting to get that back.”

The 36-year-old life skills coach set some ground rules: lots of healthy whole foods; as many fruits, veggies, lean proteins, and whole grains as she wanted to eat; natural sugars; and an occasional cheat day.

“I didn’t restrict myself completely. For me, as soon as I restrict myself, that [unhealthy food] is all I want,” she said.

Isn’t that the truth? They say you only want what you can’t have! Fortunately, Patricia’s occasional cheat day is doctor-approved. According to Dr. Oz, “going off your diet once in a while stimulates the thyroid gland and can ‘wake up’ your metabolism; cheating in a sensible way will help steer you toward success in the long-term.”

Once she shed a few pounds, Patricia built up the courage to start exercising again. She started with short walks and progressed to cardio and strength training. She even recruited her mom as a workout partner. Eventually, she added yoga and stair-climbing to her workout regimen.

“If I change it up and don’t stick necessarily to the same thing, it is more fun,” she said.

Four years later, Patricia is 100 pounds lighter and so much happier. At 5 feet 8 inches tall and 190 pounds, Patricia says she still wants to lose another 20 pounds, but her goal has shifted from losing weight to just being healthy.

“I am stronger than what I would have given myself credit for back when I was 100 pounds heavier,” she said.

We bet her ex is kicking himself now. You go, Patricia!
