In the ever-changing world of diet culture, losing weight with GLP-1s is changing the way we think about weight loss. But an integral part of losing weight — with or without the aid of semaglutide — is adopting healthy habits. Once GLP-1 patients start to taper from their prescribed dose of Ozempic or other drug of choice, regular exercise and healthy eating will maintain their weight loss. That’s why telehealth providers such as Noom Med, which is an offshoot of popular weight-loss platform Noom, prescribe a wide range of GLP-1s. Noom Med’s model is a little different than most telehealth providers, and is closely related to Noom Weight.

“Our mission is to empower everyone, everywhere, to live better, longer,” Noom’s CEO, Geoff Cook, tells Woman’s World. “We do that by combining these efficacious medications with behavior change to produce the benefits like improved health outcomes and increase health span.”

Noom Med looks at weight loss holistically

Noom Med is no typical Noom subscription. For those who aren’t familiar with Noom, it gives you a daily calorie goal; promotes daily exercise; offers an educational information to keep you informed; and “coaches” for support. Noom Med includes all that, in addition to a prescription for a GLP-1. You can either opt into the GLP-1 Rx plan or the branded plan, depending on what types of medications you want access to and what you can afford. Along with that, the plan also comes with one-on-one telehealth visits, messaging with weight loss doctors, an online community and an insurance care team, who ensures your medication is covered.

“It’s not just about access. I think access is critically important,” Cook adds. “But I think we are unique in really emphasizing behavior change aspect of beginning that GLP—1 journey.”

Starting Noom Med is simple

First, prospective patients will take a quick quiz, to share their health history and goals. Then, to make sure you qualify for a GLP-1 prescription, doctors will have you take a metabolic lab test. Finally, you’ll explore treatment options with a clinician, before getting a prescription and medical support program. Moving forward, you’ll have access to additional care from their personal health care professional, and will be able to adjust their dose at any time.

Noom Med offers all weight loss medications

  • Noom GLP-1 Rx (generic compounded semaglutide)
  • Ozempic
  • Wegovy
  • Zepbound
  • Metformin
  • Mounjaro
  • Saxenda

Noom Med plans to evolve with the GLP-1 industry

As GLP-1s become more in-demand, Noom Med plans to expand, too. Cook explains Noom is staying up-to-date with industry-wide changes, and plans to evolve with it.

“As weight loss medications become more accessible and affordable and with different formats (beyond injections and so forth), you’ll see more and more people kind of engage in a health journey with the help of a medication,” he adds.

Noom's customer care team sets it apart from other providers

Each Noom Med patient has a customer care team they can reach out to at any time. Once you get started, you’ll likely have the most contact with your coach, who responds to any and all questions as you embark on your weight loss journey.

“The member has one-on-one access to their coach, who will check in on them weekly,” Cook tells us. “They’re a good place to  build connection. Some people really feel a connection to their coach and get support out of it.”

There’s also a clinical team that can tend to medical questions; a community you can reach out to for support; and an AI bot who can help you with basic health questions. Care coordinators can also respond to administrative matters such as: prior authorizations, labs, and prescription refills within 24 hours.

However, there’s no customer service call line

Unlike other telehealth services, Noom Med does not offer a phone number if that is your preferred mode of communication. Similar to your coach or clinical team, who can be contacted through the patient portal, representatives can only be reached by chat — they are helpful, but cannot be reached by phone.

The app is easy-to-use, and keeps you on track

The Noom app is an extremely useful tool for Noom Med patients. Not only does it help you keep track of your Noom Weight data, but it also allows you to track symptoms and progress. You can also communicate with your clinician in the app, reach out to support and get dietary advice. At the top, it even shows when your next appointment will be — so everything you need is right there.

“Ease of use is key, because at the end of the day, it’s a healthy habits platform,” Cook says. “Healthy habits are hard enough to adopt, and it’s really important for it to be simple and comprehensible.”
