Anat Galor, MD, MSPH
Dr. Galor is a leading expert on ocular surface pain and dry eye disease, including its link to neuropathic ocular pain and persistent pain after LASIK. Her research has transformed understanding of dry eye by highlighting the role of nerve dysfunction and demonstrating that symptoms and clinical signs are often discordant. She was the first to show that common dry eye symptoms—such as burning and light or wind sensitivity—overlap with chronic pain conditions elsewhere in the body, and she confirmed this connection by identifying heightened nerve sensitivity both in the cornea and beyond the eye.
Building on these findings, Dr. Galor has pioneered novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for nerve-related ocular pain and has evaluated treatments including gabapentinoids (α2δ ligands), periocular injections and transcutaneous electrical stimulation. Her work, widely published in leading ophthalmology and pain journals, has also underscored the significant impact of ocular pain on quality of life. In recognition of her contributions, she was named to The Ophthalmologist Power List 2021.
