Mara Levinsky, Soap Opera Digest Executive Editor, grew up in Evanston, IL and developed her passion for daytime drama at a young age. She began her career at Soap Opera Digest in 1999 after writing her honors thesis on soap operas and feminism at Smith College and interning at Soap Opera Weekly.
Mara has spent her decades in soap media writing about every show on the air (with a special emphasis on General Hospital, her main beat when the magazine was in print); interviewing thousands of daytime stars (plus executive producers, head writers and other behind-the-scenes players); and editing Digest’s critical writing columns (Editor’s Choice, Performer of the Week, Thumbs Up!/Thumbs Down!).
From 2018–23, Mara and Stephanie Sloane co-hosted Digest’s popular weekly podcast, Dishing with Digest, which featured lively conversations with current and former daytime stars. Mara has also hosted Facebook Lives and Instagram Lives for General Hospital. Since 2023, she has been the top editor of the SOD website.
In her free time, she enjoys camping, supporting the art of drag and strolling her beautiful Brooklyn neighborhood with her yorkie, Crouton.
