Meena B. Bansal, MD

Meena B. Bansal, MD, has been a faculty member at Mount Sinai since 2001 and is a nationally recognized expert in liver disease. Her research, supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), has made important contributions to understanding liver fibrosis, including in people living with HIV. In addition to her research, Dr. Bansal has held numerous leadership roles at Mount Sinai, helping to improve patient care, expand access to innovative treatments and advance population health initiatives across the health system.

Clinically, she specializes in the treatment and management of Metabolic Dysfunction–Associated Steatohepatitis (MASH), formerly known as NASH. She has served as a principal investigator on multiple clinical trials and has played a key role in bringing new liver therapies to patients. Dr. Bansal has also held national leadership positions in liver health and currently serves as Director of Mount Sinai’s MASLD/MASH Center of Excellence. In January 2024, she was named System Chief of the Division of Liver Diseases for the Mount Sinai Health System.
