One of the best parts of the new year? Thinking about all the trips you’re planning and new places you want to visit! There’s nothing like a little (or big) vacay to feel refreshed for a new year, whether it’s a quick road trip or a full-on beach resort vacation. However, the hardest part can be deciding where you should go with so many amazing places to choose from. Well, we have a little hack for you: Choose your next travel destination based on your favorite perfume! Different scents can remind us of different places and chances are if you like a certain fragrance, there’s a city that gives off the same aesthetic. Or, if you’re not looking to leave the house but want to feel like you’re on vacation, perfume does the trick! Keep reading for the next trip you should take in 2025 based on your favorite perfume.

How scents can remind us of places

Studies show that different scents can trigger memories and emotions. For example, if you smell the perfume that your grandma wore growing up, your brain may take you right back to when you were young watching her spritz it on. Or if you smell your favorite dessert, you may be reminded of your mom baking it for you during your childhood.

The same goes for scents and places. The smell of a tropical perfume may take you back to that beach vacation you took with your family when you were 10. Or, if you’re craving a beach vacation, you may gravitate towards beachy and tropical fragrances subconsciously. Choosing a perfume based on a destination you want to visit or revisit can do wonders for boosting your mood and making you feel like you’re actually there.

One of the most beloved and popular perfumes of today is Burberry Her Eau de Parfum, and if you ask us, it heavily channels the romantic, city energy of London. And it makes even more sense since Burberry was founded in the UK! Burberry Her is seductively sweet with notes of blackcurrant, jasmine accord, white woods, musk and dry amber. It’s fruity and feminine, and you’re sure to get loads of compliments when wearing it.

Valentino Donna Born in Roma Eau de Parfum is a cult-classic, and smells just as romantic as Paris, the City of Love. It works for a variety of big European cities, like Paris as mentioned, but also Rome (hence the name) or Milan. It has key notes of blackcurrant, jasmine grandiflorum and bourbon vanilla, making it romantic, feminine and sexy. It’s the perfect date night perfume no matter where you are.

If you like Dime Malibu Night, travel to Southern California in 2025

This fragrance, Dime Malibu Night Eau de Parfum, is one of my all-time favorite scents (which is saying a lot considering the amount of perfumes I’ve tested). It makes me feel like I’m on a beach in California in June, thanks to notes of muddled raspberries, tropical fruits, rose petals, jasmine flower, warm vanilla, coconut cream and soft musk. And better yet, it’s ultra-gentle on skin thanks to its water-based, clean perfume formula.

If you like Le Labo Santal 33, travel to the mountains in Colorado in 2025

If you like the smell of Le Labo Santal 33, the mountains are calling your name. It’s woody and earthy, and smells like a crisp morning hiking in the woods. If you don’t want to spend the money on the Le Labo version, try Salt & Stone Santal and Vetiver Body Mist which is a fraction of the cost and channels that same woodsy energy.
