Calling all fans of BookTok and reality TV! A hot new bombshell has entered the world of celebrity book clubs—and this time it’s a beloved cast member of Peacock’s hit reality show, Love Island. Season 7 contestant Jeremiah Brown recently announced he was starting a book club after a fan inspired the idea on TikTok. In less than three weeks since the initial announcement, Brown’s book club—called Jeremiah’s Reading Room—has amassed almost 120,000 members. Here, we gathered up everything you need to know about Brown’s bookish new venture, including the club’s first book pick, where and when the meetings occur and more!

What is Jeremiah Brown’s book club?

During his Love Island U.S.A. Season 7 introduction, Brown shared with viewers that he loved to read and was a “huge bookworm.” Then, following his elimination on episode 18, he was engaging with fans on social media—and the idea for the book club was mentioned.

“I was on TikTok Live, just talking to the community, and then someone was like, ‘You should do a book club,’” Brown told Today.com in July. “It was a light bulb moment that I stole. I tried to find the name, I swear, but the comments were coming in too fast, so I wrote it down.”

The club, Jeremiah’s Reading Room, is growing rapidly and now has more than 120,000 members. In the initial announcement, Brown said that he was shocked by the amount of love and support he received from both fans and the reading community.

“It feels like something we could have that’s more than just content on TikTok,” he told The New York Times. “It was something I could build and have a community around.”

Within that community, however, Brown said he will not discuss Love Island and instead will focus on books.

“I always used to read to better myself,” he told Today. “I’m just allowing myself to be like, ‘OK, just enjoy the book. It doesn’t have to be learning about your ego or learning about why you care about this. So I’m just trying to enjoy myself—actually reading something just for fun that’s not based around necessarily getting better. Even though it probably might make me better.”

What book did Jeremiah Brown choose first?

Following his book club announcement, Brown asked his followers which genre they were most interested in. It’s not surprising that Love Island fans are love story enthusiasts—and the romance genre wins by far. The first book club pick: Madeline Miller’s best-selling Greek retelling, Song of Achilles—which Brown says is a nice break from his go-to self-help, health and fitness books.

“The personification, the way she describes things that aren’t human as they are human. I was like, I can’t believe it’s (Miller’s) first book. I’ve never read anything like this ever,” he told Today

Brown also shared with The New York Times that some of his friends were also loving the book, saying, “It is funny to see my bros text me with pictures like, look what you got me out here reading, bro—and it was The Song of Achilles.”

The book is a tragic retelling of the Greek myth that follows best friends Achilles and Patroclus as they navigate life, love and war during the Trojan War. It was originally published back in 2011 and has since become an internet favorite, earning more than 1 million ratings on Goodreads and going viral on BookTok. Since Brown chose Song of Achilles, the title moved from the top 500 to the top 100 in Amazon’s sales, according to the New York Times

When and where to join Jeremiah’s Reading Room

Jeremiah’s Book Club is expected to meet and discuss the novel on August 4 at 5 pm on TikTok. If you would like to join, click here, as Brown regularly posts both book club updates and his own personal reading updates on his TikTok account, which has over 2 million followers.

“My favorite part is when people come up to me like, ‘Can we get a picture? I’m in your book club,” Brown told Today of his fame. “It’s just crazy.”

What’s next for the book club?

As of publication, Brown’s book club has not yet selected its next book. When they do, the reality TV star says he’ll let the members choose again—because, at the end of the day, “it’s okay to read for fun,” and letting book club members brainstorm, discuss and vote on their favorite books is all part of that.
