Rebecca Yarros fans, rejoice! Get your tissues ready because her emotional military love story, In the Likely Event, is officially being adapted into a Netflix movie, and here’s everything you need to know about the adaptation. What you need to know about the ‘In the Likely Event’ movie
The movie announcement came simultaneously from The Hollywood Reporter and Yarros’ Instagram, where she wrote, “SURPRISE! We have film news!!! We’ve been sitting on this news for over a year and I finally get to say that IN THE LIKELY EVENT is coming to the screen!!!”
Brian Williams for Dylan Clark Productions and Kira Cousineau for Netflix will oversee the film. “I’m absolutely thrilled to be working with Dylan Clark Productions and Netflix to bring In the Likely Event to life and honored to be an EP!” Screenwriter Lindsay Ferrentino, who is currently writing five projects for the streaming platform, is also joining the team.
“It’s such a special book to me and I can’t wait to see Nate and Izzy brought to the screen by such a thoughtful and passionate team of creators! Lindsey Ferrentino has been a dream to have as the project’s writer!”
Ferrentino also shared her thoughts on the news, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s a huge responsibility to live up to the ferocity of Rebecca Yarros’ fandom and a challenge I’m excited for. Like all of Rebecca’s books it is an epic, sweeping story and what Rebecca does so well is build these incredibly complicated worlds.”
“This is my fifth project with Netflix—which has been a wonderfully supportive home for me, letting me develop so many projects there. And with each project I’ve written for them, they’ve allowed me to write on a bigger canvas. The Rebecca Yarros book is definitely the biggest scale story I’ve adapted and am deeply grateful for the opportunity,” said Ferrentino.
Yarros also expressed appreciation to her team: “Gratitude isn’t a big enough word for how this feels! What is ‘In The Likely Event’ about?
Published in August of 2023, this sweet yet emotional romance follows Izzy Astor, who doesn’t realize that one chance encounter will change her life. She doesn’t think much of it when she gets on a plane to go home for the holidays. However, when she meets her seatmate, charming Nate Phelan, with his dark hair and blue eyes, she can’t help but feel a connection between them. Izzy didn’t believe in destiny, but she does now.
Things change 90 seconds after takeoff when suddenly their plane goes down in the Missouri River. Spanning over 10 years, Izzy and Nate’s lives change immensely after that day. He enlists in the military and goes overseas while Izzy takes up a political career. They find each other a few times, but unfortunately, the timing is never right—until a high-stakes reunion in Afghanistan, where Nate must save Izzy’s life. And he’ll do anything to protect her if it means he can also win her heart.
Another one of Yarros’ books is also being adapted
Last fall, Yarros announced that Fourth Wing, the first book in her Empyrean Series, was optioned for TV. It’s currently in development at Amazon MGM studios and Yarros will serve as a non-writing producer. No other details have been shared regarding casting or the release date.
Onyx Storm, the third book in the series, will be released on January 21, 2025, but if you need more strictly romance stories from Yarros, her next book, Variation, will be available on November 19, 2024.
