‘Yellowstone’ Stars Reveals the Truth: Are Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly Friends?
Rip and Beth's onscreen chemistry was electric—but what's their bond like off camera?
Anyone who has watched Taylor Sheridan’s hit show Yellowstone knows that Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly, who played Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton, respectively, had some of the best chemistry of all time. Between passionate kisses, epic fights and unmatched banter, they truly shined. But what went on behind the scenes? Were the two really friends? We look into Hauser and Reilly’s real-life relationship below.
The beginning of Rip and Beth: How Hauser and Reilly met in 2018
Hauser and Reilly met back in 2018 when filming for Yellowstone first began. They were immediately thrown into a variety of dramatic scenes and swoonworthy kisses, all of which fans loved.
“They risk their lives for one another. We get to be in this heightened story where death is around the corner for all of them very often. Beth has been in situations where Rip has had to save her, and he loves her through the most difficult moments in their life; they’ve been sweethearts since they were children, like 15 years old,” Reilly told The Hollywood Reporter in November of 2024. “There’s such a history and people are invested. Taylor writes romance so beautifully; it almost feels old school, old-fashioned. There’s so much edge in his writing except when it comes to love. When he writes love, it’s poetry. There’s something about the devotion of this couple that’s really powerful.”
Hauser added to that, telling the outlet that several of his friends “really love these scenes between the two of us where there really isn’t any dialogue.”

“Where stories, and certainly this story and show, are so driven on words, Taylor has these wonderful moments with Beth and Rip where they just get to stare at each other or just lay together in silence, staring off thinking, and having those quiet, beautiful moments. It’s brilliant that he has the wherewithal to do that for these two,” he continued.
Following that, Hauser went on The Drew Barrymore Show and gave even more details on their friendship.
“In between takes, she and I are like brother and sister. We joke; we have fun,” he said.
How Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly felt about leaving ‘Yellowstone’
Yellowstone came to an end in 2024 and, like so many of us, Hauser and Reilly were super sad about it, especially since that meant they wouldn’t be seeing each other every day.
“Words cannot convey how I feel about the people I got to work and create with over the seasons,” Reilly wrote on Instagram in 2024, per People magazine. “I have made true life-long friends. The support from the crew and the trust and dedication of the cast, the words I got to say and the woman I got to inhabit. It changed me. It lit me up. It challenged me in every way possible and I will forever be grateful for it.”
Life after ‘Yellowstone’: The Hauser and Reilly reunion in ‘Dutton Ranch’
Following the finale of Yellowstone, Hauser and Reilly went their separate ways for a while. Then, after a few months, they reunited to film their spinoff show Dutton Ranch, which will be released later this year.

“This is a different era—I had hit my quota of the younger Beth,” Reilly told The Times earlier this year. “I loved her smoking and we don’t want to suddenly sanitise her with therapy or good behavior. That would be a crime. But I am trying to find a bit more maturity.”
