This Small Mindset Change Is the Key to Betty White’s Fulfilling Life and Career
If you ask anyone about actress Betty White, chances are they’ll have nothing but glowing things to say about her personality, her life, and her career. She’s not just a legend who’s been in show business for eight decades; she’s a cultural icon too. In fact, author Paula Bernstein went so far as to detail all the ways that White inspires people in her new book How to Be Golden: Lessons We Can Learn From Betty White.
“She almost seems like she could be one of us,” Bernstein recently told the news station KING 5 about why people adore the Golden Girls star so much. “She’s not afraid to make fun of herself…But really, the other thing is she’s been around forever. She’s gonna be 100 in January.”
Given that Bernstein’s written an entire book (Buy on Amazon, $19.49) all about what White has taught us, she’s picked up on a few key nuggets that’ve made the actress such a success. “If things don’t go the way that you were planning, you’ve got to pivot,” Bernstein explained about White’s mindset. For example, after her dreams of being a movie star were initially dashed by studio executives who thought she didn’t have the right “look,” White didn’t give up and call it a day. Instead, she moved on to a radio gig, which eventually gave way to television and then film roles years down the line. She really stuck it out!
Bernstein also pointed out that White has always excelled at having fun no matter what she’s doing and seizing any and every opportunity that’s thrown her way — including appearing on a spate of game shows in the 1960s! “She has said, ‘I love playing games, I get to be paid to play games with my best friends,'” she noted about how the star jumped at the chance.
There’s a lot to be inspired by when it comes to Betty White and her career! And it looks like loving her could pay off — literally. As part of a celebration of her 100th birthday, you could get paid $1,000 to watch White’s best work. Sounds like a dream!
