‘I Like Them Better Than My Own Family’: ‘The Brady Bunch’ Cast Reveals What the Show Was Really About
Three Brady kids reunited at a NJ panel to share stories, laughs and the bond that still lasts today
Three former ‘Brady Bunch’ siblings recently reunited at a weekend panel and discussion in New Jersey and the crew discussed their time on the series. The Chocolate Expo saw Barry Williams (Greg Brady), Mike Lookinland (Bobby Brady) and Susan Olsen (Cindy Brady) come together to discuss the show and what it meant to them.
The event took place the last weekend of March on Saturday the 29th and Sunday the 30th at the New Jersey Expo Center in Edison. The three actors joined a panel discussion as part of the event’s entertainment lineup, where they reminisced about The Brady Bunch.
What Barry Williams says the show was really about
Williams had a few sentimental words to say about the show and how its purpose always made him feel better.
“That is, how do people get along with one another? How do we resolve issues together?” Williams said. “And we said it in kind of trite ways, ‘All for one, one for all,’ and that’s really what we meant. As I look at the body of five years of shows, we see that with our siblings — who we never refer to as steps, it was never my stepsister or stepmom, right away it was sister — we were all in it together. Each time we finished an episode I felt better than when I started. And that was the point. That is what the show is supposed to be, that is what the brand of the show was, as a model.”
New generations are falling in love with ‘The Brady Bunch’
During the panel, Williams shared how he’s been able to speak with fans over the years and how those fans have changed. The series, which aired from 1969-1974, has seen new generations of fans get introduced to The Brady Bunch and has been able to meet these new viewers.
“We get to say ‘hello’ to lots of our viewers from over the years,” Williams explained. “And now we have parents and grandparents bringing their kids and grandkids.”
‘A badge of honor’: what it’s like to be known as a Brady kid

Growing up portraying an iconic character can mean that the role sticks with you for life, especially with roles like the Brady siblings. The actors who portrayed the kids are grateful for the opportunity to have been a Brady kid and they shared their love over the past weekend.
“Being a Brady kid is a badge of honor,” Williams shared. “It’s been a wonderful ride and continues to be so.”
Even though the show came to an end over 50 years ago, the Brady siblings remain in touch and have kept a close bond. Williams shared about the love he has for his on-screen siblings and how their bond is something you “can’t fake.”
“We’re all still friendly and get together − I think it’s fun for us to all get together, which we do,” Williams explained of his on-screen siblings. “Some of them I like better than my own family … The chemistry — which you can’t fake — is genuine.”
