Dolly’s nephew Bryan Seaver announced her death

On August 25, 2026, it was Dolly’s nephew Bryan that shared the devastating news that she had passed away. Bryan is the son of Dolly’s sister Cassie Parton, and the love he had for his aunt was clear in the message he left with her fans. In the video, Bryan revealed that Dolly had actually asked him years prior to be the one to share when she passed, for in addition to being a member of her family, he had served as the head of her security for two decades. 

“I first went on the road with Dolly as a kid, getting a taste of the road life in the early 1980s. Dolly opened doors not just for me, but for her entire family to reach the potential we didn’t even know was possible,” he shared in his touching tribute. 

Jada Star shares an emotional tribute to her Aunt Dolly

Dolly’s niece Jada, the daughter of her sister Freida Parton, recently opened up about saying goodbye to her beloved aunt. 

“I can’t remember a life without her. She would also tell us to start drying it up and start trying to get back to work and love each other real hard. She was just a trip,” Jada shared with Extra. When asked if there was anything she wished she could say to Dolly, she simply shared, “I think I would just say thank you so much and I love you so much and I know you’re okay.”

Dolly’s cousin Richie Owens reflects on their close bond

Dolly and her cousin Richie worked together numerous times over the years, with Richie even producing several of her albums. During an appearance on Today, Owens spoke out about his late cousin, saying, “What you saw from Dolly is how she was in real life, at home, personable, magical, just very giving. You got the same thing. She didn’t turn it on and off. Dolly was always Dolly. She had the greatest sense of humor.”

Richie also revealed that the burial service was very small and private, sharing, “She would much rather see people take that $50 they were gonna spend on flowers and give it to her Imagination Library. She said that many, many times. She really cared about her charities.”

Niece Rebecca shared a touching tribute

Rebecca Seaver, the daughter of Cassie Parton, also shared her own sweet message on social media after Dolly’s passing, writing, “Today, I embark on a new journey: a life without my most trusted confidant. My best friend, my favorite adventurer, my name-giver, my godmother, my precious Aunt Granny.” She continued, “I am so grateful to have experienced the magic of her presence in my life and in all of yours. It is my absolute honor to pay tribute to her today, and always, by telling her beautiful story. Her legacy is the joy she brought and will continue to bring to all of us.”

Lainey was Dolly’s great-niece, her grandfather being Dolly’s brother Robert, and she also took to Instagram to share a touching tribute. “From the time I was little, my granny always had a way of making me feel like I was enough. She never made my dreams feel too big or made me feel like I couldn’t do something. She believed in me before I even knew how to believe in myself.”

Dolly Parton’s nieces share their favorite family memories

During an appearance on TODAY, Heidi, whose father is Dolly’s brother Randy, and Danielle, whose father is Dolly’s brother Robert Jr., shared fond memories. “I sat down and had a very sweet, in-depth conversation about how to proceed with my career,” shared Heidi. “We talked for about an hour and she was like, ‘Baby, I’m just going to tell you this. You’ve got the talent. If you want it, go get it.’ I’m like, ‘Yes, ma’am.’”

As for Danielle, she remembers her aunt being just like one of her pals. “She liked regular food. Oh, she was a fast food junkie. We were always talking about our food and stuff. We were just regular girls, and we were talking about regular stuff, and just life.”
