Inside Olivia Newton-John + Daughter Chloe Lattanzi’s Beautiful Bond & How She Honors Her Mom Today
The 38-year-old singer’s tribute song ‘Phoenix’ honors the deep bond she shared with her late mother
Musician and actress Olivia Newton-John brought a light to the world that’s hard to replicate. From hit films like Grease (1978) and Xanadu (1980) that live in our movie rotation after all these years to songs like “Hopelessly Devoted to You” and “Physical” that we can’t help but sing along to, the talented performer has left a mark that lives on long beyond her tragic passing in 2022 after a long and difficult journey with breast cancer. Though she was taken from the world far too soon, passing at just 73 years old, her legacy lives on thanks to her work and those who loved her most—including her daughter, Chloe Lattanzi, who recently honored her mom in a beautiful way.
Who is Olivia Newton-John’s daughter?
Chloe Lattanzi, daughter of Olivia Newton-John and Matt Lattanzi, is a 38-year-old musician and actress, who has remained committed to honoring her mother’s legacy since her passing. Some of her film credits include Sharknado 5: Global Swarming (2017), Deltopia (2023) and The Wilde Girls (2001). As far as her music goes, you may have heard some of her songs including “Window in the Wall” and “Self Love Symphony,” but it’s one of her most recent releases, “Phoenix,” that has people talking.

Using music to honor her mother
On what would have been Newton-John’s 76th birthday in late September, Lattanzi put out the song “Phoenix,” and it’s one that has a special meaning when it comes to her and her mother’s relationship. It was a tune she had begun working on while her mother was still alive, and it was one she had always urged her to release. However, when her mother’s illness progressed, it got pushed to the back burner.
“I co-wrote the song ‘Phoenix‘ for my mom as a promise to fly, to know my own worth and to make sure to love myself,” Lattanzi told PEOPLE. Struggling with things like PTSD, this song is an oath to take care of herself and share her gifts and talents with the world as her mother had hoped she would.
“I’m really excited to release this song in her honor,” she said. “And for anyone who’s struggling with issues of the body, the mind, or the spirit, I want it to be a reminder to them that they are incredibly more powerful than they could ever imagine. You are not what has happened to you, and you are not the illness that you have. You are eternal, bright light.”
Olivia Newton-John and her daughter
The relationship Newton-John shared with her daughter was a very special one. The mother-daughter duo had worked on music together in the past, including “Window in the Wall” and “You Have To Believe” by Dave Audé, which the two featured on.
With that in mind, losing her mother rocked Lattanzi’s world, and earlier in the year, she took to Instagram to share a candid post about how she was doing after the loss of such an important figure in her life.
“Since my mom’s passing and the year and a half with her going through cancer, I have not been okay,” she said in the video. “If I have forgotten to return your calls—I’ve had extreme memory loss, I’ve had difficulty getting out of bed. I’ve stuck to my commitments but I have been neglecting myself.”
She went on to explain that her mother was a huge advocate for taking care of oneself, and she would therefore be taking some time away to re-center. “We never know what someone’s inner world really looks like,” she wrote. “Please take care of you, and your capacity for healing others and being more powerful than you ever could have imagined will follow. Take it easy. Take it slow. Easy does it darlings.”
