A Look Inside ‘Yellowstone’ Creator Taylor Sheridan’s $320 Million 6666 Texas Ranch
The ranch was featured in the show, highlighting just how much of a cowboy he is
It’s no secret that Yellowstone writer and creator Taylor Sheridan is a real-life cowboy. Born and raised in Texas, the Oscar nominee currently resides on the historic 6666 (pronounced “four sixes”), which is based in the Lone Star State and was featured on his hit Western television show Yellowstone. We take a look inside the home and what a typical day in the life looks like below.
The history of the 6666 ranch
The 6666 Ranch is based in Guthrie, Texas, and is dedicated to producing the best American Quarter Horses and Angus cattle in the country. It was founded by Samuel “Burk” Burnett in 1870 and got its name after he branded all of his cattle with the number “6666.”
Following that, the Burnett family owned and operated the ranch for decades, which enabled it to become one of the most respected and enduring horse and cattle farms ever. Sadly, though, in 2020, Samuel’s great-granddaughter, Anne Windfohr Marion, died and the ranch was then bought by Sheridan and his wife, Nicole Muirbrook, for $320 million two years later.
“The legacy of the 6666 Ranch and Miss Marion’s vision for the ranch are vital not only to the ranch itself but the rich heritage of ranching in Texas,” Sheridan said at the time, per Parade.
In that same Parade article, Don Bell, owner and broker of United Country Real Estate, said, “Featured on the hit show Yellowstone, the ranch was purchased in its entirety and will continue to represent the icon that it is in the ranching community. History is always being made around this unique ranch, and this purchase was no different.”

Before moving there, though, Sheridan and his family lived in Utah, but he apparently wasn’t a huge fan of the weather.
“We were living in Park City [Utah], and Taylor really didn’t like the snow,” Muirbrook told Cowgirl Magazine in 2021. “So, he rolled over one morning and said, ‘Honey, we’re getting the hell out of here,’ and I’m, like, ‘Where are we going?’ ‘We’re going to go to Texas,’ he replied.”
“We actually bought the house before I’d ever seen it,” she continued. “With the hectic schedule of Yellowstone, he was, like, ‘Maybe we should go see the house.’So, I flew there on a weekend and I loved it.”
As of publication, the ranch spans over 266,000 acres, making it twice the size of Chicago, Illinois. Despite this, it’s only the 9th-largest ranch in the state of Texas. It employs about 20 full-time cowboys, as well as 50 to 100 seasonal employees.
Life on the ranch for Taylor Sheridan

When he’s not on the Dutton Yellowstone Ranch or Landman’s The Patch, Sheridan is most likely at home with his wife and son Gus, who apparently loves living on the 6666 Ranch.
“He’s never on his phone. He’s never on his Xbox. He’s always outside with the dogs, fishing with his buds or roller-skating in the barn,” Muirbrook told Cowgirl Magazine. “He also ropes, so he’s often on horseback. He’s just always doing something.”
Sheridan is also a horseback rider, a skill that was demonstrated during his cameo in Yellowstone.
