Jenna Bush Hager Debuts a Bold New Bob on Live TV—Here’s How You Can Copy the Look
Her new cut is going viral for good reason—we walk through what to ask for at your next salon visit
The bob seems to be all the rage this summer and celebrities like Pamela Anderson, Zoe Saldaña and Leslie Bibb have been rocking the new look on red carpets and TV appearances alike. Now, TODAY with Jenna & Friends host Jenna Bush Hager has debuted her new hairdo, which she had styled live on television.
Co-hosting with Hager was actress Leslie Bibb, who debuted her own bob haircut in The White Lotus. On the June 16 episode of Jenna & Friends, Hager received a haircut by renowned hair stylist, Chris McMillan, who did Leslie Bibb’s iconic bob and is also credited with creating Jennifer Aniston’s iconic look, “The Rachel,” from Friends.

McMillan, who has been a hairdresser for nearly three decades, is responsible for not only “The Rachel,” but also for Kim Kardashian’s engagement look as well as Miley Cyrus’ dramatic rock star change in 2012. He was also the mastermind behind the beachy, wavy hair that is all over red carpets today and has worked on celebrities including Cindy Crawford, Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Jessica Parker and Julia Roberts.
When he began working on Hager’s hair on the show, he explained, “Bobs are like spring cleaning. There’s sometimes some bad damage, bad layers. It sort of evens it up.”

McMillan confirmed that he considers the face shape of a client when approaching a haircut, as that can change everything.
“Jenna has a lot of face from here to here,” McMillan said, gesturing to the jawline, “and a small forehead, very similar to Jennifer Aniston’s face shape… You can slick [your hair] behind your ears, like do the tuck…You can wear it natural, you can wear it wavy,” he explained.
Hager reveals the new hairdo
On today’s episode of TODAY with Jenna & Friends, she debuted her new look alongside Leslie Bibb, who made the haircut famous a few months ago. The two looked similar walking on stage and Hager made a note of that.
“This is my hair,” she said. “I feel a little… You know that ’90s movie Single White Female, where you try to copy somebody to such an extent? You made this haircut so famous, and then I used your hairstylist, who is a star, to get the exact same haircut, and I’m feeling a little strange.”
But Bibb confirmed that it wasn’t at all strange, rather that she was pulling it off effortlessly. “You don’t look strange,” she explained. “You look sexy and powerful and glamorous. And I kept saying it yesterday — you’re a badass.”
How to ask for Jenna’s bob haircut at your salon
If you’re looking for your own fresh summer hairstyle or you just really love Jenna Bush Hager’s new hair, you’re in luck because you can easily get the same or a similar cut at your own hair salon.
The haircut that McMillan did on Hager is called an A-line bob and hers specifically framed her face and ended at her shoulders. Ask your stylist for a bob that’s shorter in the back, longer in the front and specify your desired length, texture and styling preferences, ideally with a photo of Hager for reference.
While everyone’s bob might look a bit distinct due to face shape and preference, the summer hairstyle is perfect for the warmer months.
