How Fitness Star Katie Austin Healed Her Gut and Skin—and Created a Wellness Empire (EXCLUSIVE)
Denise Austin's daughter opens up about gut health, glowing skin and her love of healthy comfort food
Katie Austin can do it all: A former D1 athlete, the 31-year-old fitness influencer and daughter of beloved fitness coach Denise Austin has left her mark on the health and wellness world. Whether she’s walking in a Sports Illustrated fashion show, hanging out on the red carpet of the ESPYs, sharing a healthy recipe on her digital cooking show Come on In or uploading a new workout video to her app, Austin is all about taking care of your body while still enjoying all that life has to offer. Though her workouts and classes certainly get your blood pumping, the importance of caring for yourself from the inside out isn’t lost on Katie, which ultimately led her to her latest partnership with IBGard, an herbal supplement that utilizes peppermint oil to help ease stomach discomfort and symptoms such as gas, bloating and cramping—but Katie’s dedication to the “gut health girlies” didn’t just end there. Teaming up with the brand, the fitness influencer has put together the Peppermint Power Flow, a yoga sequence that utilizes moves that support digestion and help ease stomach discomfort.

“I have a personal journey with my gut health and am intrigued myself, but obviously, my audience loves it a lot,” Austin shared with Woman’s World, noting that one of the top-performing recipes on her site is her Tummy Soothing Smoothie. As for her personal gut health journey, Katie struggled with her acne for years until she made the connection between her gut health and her skin.
“Once I started understanding my gut more, it really helped clear my skin. I did probably every serum and medicine that you can think of, took pills for my acne, and then once I understood how to clear my gut and what works for my body, that really helped clear my skin. And I think that was a rude awakening when I was around 25 years old, understanding how important the gut is and how it’s related to everything,” she revealed.
Put good in, get good out
If you’ve tuned in to Katie’s cooking series, then you know she doesn’t sacrifice flavor and satisfaction for health, but instead, learns how to combine the two. “I get a lot of my recipe inspiration from foods that I love when I’m going out to a restaurant, but then remaking them at home with a healthy spin, or maybe it’s even fast food that I love,” she reveals. “I’m not a girl that likes to just do plain healthy food. I need flavor. I need deliciousness. I do not sacrifice those things. So, I always try to make sure I’m finding a way with my favorite foods, even if it’s chicken fingers and french fries, on how to make it healthier and at home.”

Furthermore, as demonstrated by recipes like her Tummy Soothing Smoothie or even the way she breaks up recipes on her site by category (high protein, low carb, etc.), Austin understands the importance of putting good foods in her body to heal and feel her best.
How Katie’s mental health connects to her physical
As a former D1 athlete, Katie recalls that much of her experience with physical fitness was purely that—physical. Training for physical tests and sprint tests to measure her abilities on the lacrosse field, “It took me a long time to unlearn a lot of the bad habits that come with that and the training mentality, and really relearn working out for my mental health,” she shared. Now, she says, “It’s everything.”
