A rock ‘n’ roll surprise: Lady Gaga meets AC/DC’s Brian Johnson
Carpool Karaoke is a popular YouTube show that features various celebrities driving around town with James Corden and singing along to various hit songs. In the series’s most recent Apple TV holiday-themed episode—hosted by DJ Zane Lowe filling in for Corden— Gaga received an extra special gift.
After singing a few songs, Lowe pulled over and told Gaga that he had gotten her a gift before leaving her all alone in the passenger’s seat. A few seconds passed, and the “Applause” singer looked quite confused before something magical happened.
AC/DC’s lead singer, Brian Johnson, jumped right into the passenger seat, causing Gaga to burst out laughing, before hugging him.
“Hello, my darling,” Johnson (age 77) said after entering. “My little Lady Gaga. My little darling,” he exclaimed.
Lowe then entered the car, positioning himself in the backseat, while Gaga turned to him and said, “Oh, my God, you brought me Brian Johnson?”

The three then zoomed off and began belting out AC/DC’s hit song “Highway to Hell,” which, according to Johnson, was “the moment.”
Then, about halfway through the song, Johnson did the most metal thing ever: he took his hands off the steering wheel, causing Gaga to freak out and instinctively reach over and grab the wheel.
“I got it! I’m using my secret weapon,” Johnson told him, to which she rightfully responded, “We’re all gonna die.”
Soon, though, he took the steering wheel back and continued rocking out.

From music video extra to rock star: Lady Gaga’s AC/DC connection
After wrapping the song, Gaga took the time to reminisce with Johnson on her 24-year history with AC/DC, telling him that she was in a music video of theirs way back when.
“You wanna hear something funny?” She asked Johnson. “I was in the ‘Stiff Upper Lip’ video,” which was released in 2000.
“No, you weren’t!” Johnson replied, shocked.
Gaga then went on to tell them that she was an extra “in the back” when she was 17.
“I was headbanging, and they were like, ‘Hmmm. Don’t headbang, we want it to be modern.’ And I was like, ‘No, there’s only one move that I can do.'”
At the time of the music video shoot, Johnson was in the band, but given his shocked reaction, it is safe to assume that he doesn’t remember Gaga being there.

How Lady Gaga honored her late grandmother during the episode
Also, during the Carpool Karaoke episode, Gaga shared a clip of her grandmother scream-singing “Highway to Hell,” saying, “She had a really hard life, and she was the most positive person, no matter what.”
“I was 19, and I was staying with her, and I was going through a really tough time, and she said to me, ‘I’m gonna let you cry for the rest of the day, and then you’re gonna wake up tomorrow and go kick some *ss.'”
Gaga’s grandmother died in 2022, and the video was shared as a way to honor her and her lasting legacy.
