The Lawrence Brothers Announce New Mystery Novel—and It’s Full of Hollywood Twists
The brothers are launching ‘The Lawrence Brothers Detective Agency’ — and fans are here for it
The Lawrence brothers–Joey, Matthew and Andrew–are teaming up and moving onto mysteries.
The three brothers announced that they are joining forces on a new project: The Lawrence Brothers Detective Agency. They said it’s going to launch as a graphic novel to start, but that other, bigger plans are in the works also, like an animated series and a live-action show. The Lawrence Brothers Detective Agency will follow Joey, Matthew and Andrew as they run a detective agency and try to solve Hollywood mysteries.
The Lawrence brothers’ rise to fame
Joey, Matthew and Andrew aren’t strangers to the spotlight; in fact, they’ve been in it since they were children.
Joey, 49, is the oldest of the bunch and rose to fame as a teen voicing Oliver in Oliver & Company. Since then, he’s starred in Blossom, Mellissa & Joey, and even appeared on Dancing with the Stars in 2006. He broke into the music scene when he was 16 years old, releasing his debut album “Joey Lawrence.” His hit single “Nothin’ My Love Can’t Fix” reached number 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1993.
Matthew, 45, appeared in Brotherly Love, Mrs. Doubtfire and played Jack Hunter in Boy Meets World. He also competed in the 24th season of Worst Cooks in America.
Andrew, 37, made his debut at 3 years old as Little Joey on Blossom. He also voiced T.J. in Recess, and appeared in Hawaii Five‑0 and The Other Me.
All three brothers starred in the sitcom Brotherly Love from 1995 through 1997 and launched a podcast with the same title in 2023. The brothers’ podcast centers around rewatches of their hit show.

“It’s awesome,” Matthew said about the podcast. “We had no intention of ever starting a podcast or ever continuing it once we started it, but it’s been so wonderfully reciprocated and the support behind it is touching, it’s a blessing. It’s awesome, and we’re taking it to Vegas for a live show next.”
About the Agency
The Lawrence brothers’ latest endeavour will be a joint effort, like their podcast, and will launch on July 24th at San Diego Comic-Con.
“The idea started literally 15 years ago. We were kicking around an idea one time when we were on vacation together,” Matthew, 45, told People. The idea came back around years later and finally became a reality.

“So we had the Berkowitz brothers pitch us an idea, alongside Brian Yuran, about this Lawrence Brothers Detective Agency that combined everything that we had been talking about, but put it in a structure that was palatable,” Joey said. “So it’s a graphic novel that taps into child stardom and nostalgia and the weirdness of Hollywood, and the characters are based on these versions of us who are sort of based on our real personalities. And then we go around solving crimes in Hollywood, like finding lost child actors.”
Joey said that he is looking forward to the project because all of the brothers will be able to have fun creating it. “Honestly, it’s important to us,” he said.
The brothers have high hopes for this project, and strive to attract both old and new fans.
“As zany as it is, and we are going to go a little edgy with it too at times, we want to keep it broad enough so that our diehard fans love it, but also their children love it,” Joey said. “I have a 19- and a 15-year-old. I want them to be able to read it. I don’t want it to be too smart for the room or too edgy for everybody. So it won’t be for little kids, but it will be for teens and their parents to enjoy together.”
Whether you’ve been a fan of the Lawrence brothers for decades or started listening to their podcast last week, the Lawrence Brothers Detective Agency will have something for you!
