Lionel Richie stays booked and busy—but the “Hello” singer also knows how to take a pause and put his health first when necessary. On August 31, TMZ reported that the 77-year-old musician checked himself into the hospital and has since been receiving attention in the intensive care unit following a performance in St. Louis.

During said performance, Richie had sat down during one of his songs, and after the show, proceeded to receive medical care. In spite of his recent health scares, which also included a similar situation in June which required him to postpone two shows after experiencing dizziness on stage, Richie remains active in both his professional life and personal life. Here, see what he’s been up to.

Lionel Richie leans on his family

As Lionel Richie navigates his health scare, fans can rest assured that he has the love and support of his tight-knit family to get him through his current battle. In addition to his long-term girlfriend, Lisa Parigi, by his side, he also has the enduring affection of his three children to help him heal. Nicole Richie, 44, Miles Richie, 32 and Sophia Richie Grainge, 28 have played an important role in both Lionel’s life and career, and fatherhood is something that simply fits the “All Night Long” singer.

Back in 2019, Richie opened up to People about fatherhood, saying, “With my kids, I know their job is to completely scare me to death. And they’re doing a great job, by the way. I told this to Nicole the other day, my job is to embarrass them as much as I could, as long as I’m here. They’re trying to do the same to me, so I think it’s an equal swap right now.”

He continued, “I remember the look on my parents’ faces when I tried explaining to them that we’re The Commodores, and we’re the Black Beatles, and we’re gonna take over the world. It’s the same look I have on my face when Nicole, Miles and Sophia come to me with their ideas. I kind of use that as my centering point before I completely go off,” he joked.
