Rare Photos of Classic Hollywood Stars on Christmas: Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn and More!
One of these stars became known for her role in a Christmas classic as a young child
Christmas is the most magical time of the year, with snow frosting the windows, a fire keeping you warm and your favorite holiday films filling the silence. Whether you prefer It’s A Wonderful Life (1946) or Miracle on 34th Street, all of these Christmas movies have one thing in common: they star your favorite actresses.
From Elizabeth Taylor to Natalie Wood, take a look at these rare photos of your favorite classic actresses behind the scenes at Christmastime.
Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor was easily one of the greatest actresses of her time, if not of all time. She began her career as a young girl at age 12 and things only grew from there. Although she wasn’t in an official Christmas movie, she did star in the film Little Women (1949) as Amy March. While not technically a holiday flick, many enjoy viewing it during the holiday season.

Grace Kelly

Beyond being a beloved actress, Grace Kelly was also a real-life princess. After marrying the Prince of Monaco, Kelly took part in many of the royal activities, including bringing gifts to the children of Monte-Carlo during Christmastime. The actress and princess is seen above preparing gifts with Santa Claus himself in a photo from 1976.
Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn had the hearts of the world in her hands throughout her entire career. The actress was best known for her roles in Roman Holiday (1953), Sabrina (1954) and Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961). Here she’s seen posing with Santa Claus during the opening ceremonies of the “Heart Thrift House,” a model home built to raise money for the New York Heart Association. Hepburn was known for her dedication to many charitable causes, including UNICEF.
Bette Davis

In this photo, Bette Davis is seen posing in a Christmas wreath, likely a publicity photo, in 1932 when the actress was about 24 years old. Davis was known to have starred in two Christmas-related films: The Man Who Came to Dinner (1941) and Pocketful of Miracles (1961).
Ava Gardner

Known best for the films Show Boat (1951), The Barefoot Contessa (1954) and Mogambo (1953), Ava Gardner was an extremely popular actress for her time. Although she didn’t star in any Christmas films, she did pose for some holiday publicity photos, like the one above with her dog from 1951.
Joan Crawford

Oscar winner Joan Crawford was a standout star during her era, known best for her roles in Mildred Pierce (1945)—for which she won an Oscar—and Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962). Of course, she didn’t appear in any Christmas movies herself but given her status in Hollywood, it’s no surprise there are holiday publicity photos of the actress.
Natalie Wood

Natalie Wood became a Hollywood star after the release of her classic holiday film, Miracle on 34th Street (1947), which she starred in alongside Maureen O’Hara. The film was an instant hit upon its release and it has become one of the most beloved Christmas classics of all time. Wood was only eight years old when Miracle on 34th Street came out.
In the above photo, an 8 or 9-year-old Natalie Wood is seen standing on a stool to reach the top of a Christmas tree as she decorates it for the holidays.
