Tamron Hall Dishes on Her New Cookbook, the Importance of Prayer — Plus, the One Thing She Does Every Morning Before She Gets Out of Bed! (EXCLUSIVE)

Plus, her favorite game-changing grilled cheese ingredient!

It’s a sunny summer morning and even on a Zoom call, talk show host Tamron Hall has a warm smile that makes the day instantly seem brighter. The two-time Emmy Award winner’s days are busy juggling motherhood, marriage and her syndicated hit talk show (with the new season starting September 3rd), but she seems to revel in each blessing, and no matter how busy her days are, she starts each one with gratitude.

“I try to carve out 20 minutes to meditate before I get out of bed every morning, I say my prayer,” she tells Woman’s World as our cover girl (get your copy here!).

“I’m not a person who tells people what to believe or how to live their life, but it’s grounding for me,” Tamron says. “I lay in the bed and I pray for the world. I pray for people I’ve never met and I ask God to really give me the words that will inspire people. Give me the words that will comfort people. Let me share my truths in efforts to help people and help myself and that is such a stress buster for me. It allows me to start the day as I chose which is in gratitude and one of service to other people. It helps me.”

Tamron Hall finds the sweet spot in her life

Tamron married in her forties, became a mother at 48, and after stints with NBC News, MSNBC and Today, she hit a sweet spot in her career by launching her own award-winning television talk show, and she’s always up for her next creative challenge.

The native Texan, who also hosts Deadline: Crime on Investigation Discovery Channel, is now following in her BBQ pitmaster grandfather’s footsteps by embracing her culinary skills and creating a new cookbook, A Confident Cook: Recipes for Joyous, No-Pressure, Fun in the Kitchen with her friend chef Lish Steiling

At age 50-plus, I was stunned at how I could fall in love with something I dreaded most of my adult life,” Tamron says of cooking. “My mom is not a cook. Her mom passed away when she was 10 years old, and my grandfather did all the cooking. Then she got married to my father and he did all the cooking.”

Tamron Hall finds joy in cooking for her loved ones

These days, Tamron enjoys cooking for her husband Steven Greener and their adorable five-year-old son, Moses.

“I always wanted to be a mom because I have such a great family structure and I’m so close to my mom,” Tamron reveals. “I just thought it was never going to happen. I never thought I would be married and during a very difficult time in my life, I met my husband right when I lost my job. I was just really trying to figure out: What’s my next chapter? What’s life like for me? And when we went on our first date he said, ‘So what do you think about kids?’ We had a very honest conversation about it, and we started almost instantly on this journey.”

Some of Moses’s favorite recipes are, of course, featured in A Confident Cook, including a grilled cheese sandwich with an unexpected ingredient.

“One day we were at my place in Sag Harbor and I said, ‘Lish, can you make a grilled cheese quickly?’ And of course, when you ask a James Beard award winning chef, ‘Can you make a grilled cheese?’ it’s gonna be great! She grabbed a pear that was in the fruit bowl, and I said, ‘No, I’m just asking for a simple grilled cheese. There’s some cheddar in the refrigerator.’ And she made this grilled cheese.”

Tamron admits, including a pear sounded amazing to her, but she didn’t think it would appeal to her young son.

“I said, ‘Lish he’s not going to eat this.’ That’s what I was thinking, but she gave it to him and he kept eating it. It hit the notes of salty and sweet. It was one of those things as a parent underestimating what our kids might like,” Tamron says. “I was deep in the throes of the chicken nugget phase at that point, which is fine because you are going to do what you need to do. That’s what I love about our book because there’s no pressure. We’re trying to guide you — whether it’s the grilled cheese or using the rice flour with fried chicken — into a lane where when you try something it helps build your confidence.”
