On Father’s Day, there’s no better time to reflect on the dads and father figures that shaped us—both real and fictional—and if there’s one film that hilariously captures fatherhood (or at least some hilarious version of it) it’s Three Men and a Baby (1987). The film follows three bachelors living in New York City—Peter (Tom Selleck), Michael (Steve Guttenberg) and Jack (Ted Danson)—who get the surprise of a lifetime when a baby girl is left on their doorstep. With a note revealing that the baby is Jack’s, Peter and Michael must figure out how to care for the child while Jack is away shooting a film. As the men fumble through fatherhood, they grow an affection for the child in this laugh-out-loud movie about life’s unexpected gifts. Here, take a look back on this hilarious film and the hunks who brought it to life.

In Three Men and a Baby, Selleck’s character of Peter, an accomplished architect, put his typical life on pause to care for Jack’s baby while he was away. Released during his Magnum, P.I. fame, the undeniably handsome actor had us falling for him all over again in this movie.

Similar to Tom Selleck, Ted Danson was in the midst of his own television fame as he led the way in Cheers. While we love him as a young brunette, there’s something about his slick, white locks of today we can’t get enough of!

Tom Selleck once again looks adorable as ever as he holds baby Mary in the movie. The actor has dipped his toes in all different genres, and folks love the work he’s done in the comedy realm. Back in 2024, he opened up to Parade about whether or not he’d pursue another, saying, “I would love to do another comedy. The right kind of comedy. Friends made people laugh and cry at times. That’s the kind of comedy I enjoy doing. Three Men and a Baby had that, too.”

An authentic accident

Three Men and a Baby sure knew how to keep things real! In this photograph used as the film’s poster, the liquid all over Tom Selleck’s clothes just so happened to be real urine. “That’s real pee on me,” Selleck shared during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “Annie Leibovitz took the picture and you know, she’s great. We’re taking this picture for the poster and the baby pees all over me. And she says, ‘Don’t change! Don’t change!,’ and she just keeps taking pictures.”
