Lost Tina Turner Rock Song ‘Hot For You Baby’ Resurfaces 40 Years After ‘Private Dancer’ Album Was Released: Hear the Track
The song has been discovered less than two years after the passing of the Queen of Rock n’ Roll
It’s been less than two years since the world lost the legendary Tina Turner, but we haven’t forgotten the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll—or her music. And now, a previously recorded song that was supposedly lost has just been rediscovered, nearly 40 years after it was created.
“Hot For You, Baby” was originally intended to be released on her 1984 album Private Dancer but was cut by her label Capitol Studios. Although the song was already recorded, the master tape was presumed missing for 40 years, but was recently found as her label began to compile songs for a 40th anniversary re-release of the record. Take a listen to the song below:
Private Dancer was a smashing success, selling over 12 million copies worldwide. The record is best known for tracks including “What’s Love Got to Do with It” and “Better Be Good to Me.” But this missing track seems as though it would fit right in with Turner’s other hits.
The record scored three Grammys at the 27th Annual awards—Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for “Better Be Good To Me,” Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for “What’s Love Got To Do With It” and Record of the Year for “What’s Love Got To Do With It.” Both of those songs were also in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, in the No. 1 and No. 5 spots.
The chorus of “Hot For You, Baby” goes, “I’m hot for you, baby/ I wanna love you/ I’m hot for you baby/ How hot can you get?” which only proves that this track would have been a success just like the rest of her hit songs. And now that the world can hear it.
You might have heard the song before:
While Turner’s version of “Hot For You, Baby” was never heard by the public once it was plucked from the record, you may have heard the track previously sung by another artist. The track was recorded by Scottish-Australian singer John Paul Young in 1979, but it was not all that popular.
Turner’s ‘Private Dancer’ record began her 2nd act
While Turner previously found success as part of the duo Ike & Tina Turner, the singer found her real success much later after she began her solo act. In the late 1970s, Turner left the duo and her husband, Ike, and tried to make it on her own as an artist.
In the 1980s, it seemed that people hadn’t forgotten about the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, as she joined Rod Stewart on Saturday Night Live in 1981, toured with the Rolling Stones and was praised by David Bowie.
A few years later, she released her debut solo album and made sure nobody would ever forget the name Tina Turner.
Tina Turner’s 40th anniversary re-release of Private Dancer will be available to listen to on March 21.
