Kate Middleton and Prince William Surprise School Children With Live Video Calls
Kate and Prince William are pulling out all the stops to show their support for those working hard on the frontline as the world battles the spread of coronavirus.
Between surprise phone calls, new images and secret visits, the pair have kept themselves very busy over the past month to shine a light on the people who are directly affected and involved in fighting the global pandemic.
But their latest venture, as shown on Instagram, might just take the cake (or should we say Easter egg?), because instead of your usual run-of-the-mill phone call, the royals decided to video call a group of very special recipients — and the clip is a true sight to behold.
This week, Kate and William dialed into Casterton Primary Academy, which is located in Lancashire and has a high percentage of pupils whose parents work for the NHS and other caring roles.
In a clip shared to the couple’s Instagram account, Kensington Royal, the video calls were revealed for all to see —— and the Duke and Duchess’ sweet interactions with pupils captured the hearts of their fans across the world.
Wearing a chic mustard-colored jumper and jeans, Catherine was a natural on camera (we’ll just be taking quiet notes over here for our own Zoom calls…), speaking candidly to several students about their Easter plans and the work their parents are doing.
Asking them about their drawings and their parents, Kate promised she would visit the school in person when the pandemic was over, adding: “We are seriously impressed by all your hard work and volunteering.”
William meanwhile was also a natural with the kids, joking with them about their creations and even confusing an Easter egg basket, made by one of the children, as a handbag.
The group laughed as William corrected himself, laughing: “Sorry, it looked like a little handbag!”.
Towards the end of the clip, the pair spoke with the teachers at the school, including the School Project Manager from a mental health charity for children, Place2Be.
Kate said: “All the parents who are key workers, [it’s great] to know that their children have normalities there for them and they’ve got the structure and a safe place for them to be. So really well done to all of you, I know it’s not easy circumstances, but it’s fantastic.”
The surprise Easter video call was received with excitement from fans, who shared their thoughts on Instagram.

Another mused: “How wonderful. This brought a tear to my eyes. Well done HRHs.”
And one fan pointed out something we were all subconsciously thinking: “Kate looks gorgeous in yellow.”
Indeed we can’t argue with that — we’re getting all kinds of working from home fashion inspiration here!
Speaking to HELLO!, one of the staff, Leala Porter said the surprise meant more than they could say.
“There’s been a genuine warmth throughout the school today with the children. The couple talked a lot about our northern spirit and thanked us for all we were doing. It meant such a lot,” the school project manager said.
And along with the teachers, we couldn’t help but enjoy one of Kate’s insights snuck into the conversation — William is a big fan of chocolate, apparently.
“There’ll be a lot of chocolate eaten here, don’t worry,” William told the staff.
To which Catherine jokingly quipped: “You keep eating it!”
We relate, Wills, we really do…
