Prince Harry and Meghan’s Big L.A. Move Has Them Following in Diana’s Footsteps
Like mother, like son.
Now that Prince Harry and wife Meghan have officially stepped down as senior royals, they’re focused on finding the perfect California abode to settle into with little Archie. It turns out, this is just another way they’re following in Princess Diana’s non-traditional footsteps.
According to the Telegraph, former royal butler Paul Burrell revealed that Diana was planning to move to the West Coast with her boyfriend, Dodi Fayed. The movie producer had purchased a Tuscan-style villa in Malibu, one of the neighborhoods Meghan and Harry are currently house-hunting in, just a few months before the couple’s tragic passing in 1997. Fayed’s massive house sat on five acres and included a private beach. It had also previously been home to another familiar face: Mary Poppins actress Julie Andrews.
Burrell said that Diana was looking forward to bringing Harry and William to bask in the sunny weather with her. “She said, ‘This is our new life, just won’t it be great, think of the lifestyle [for] the boys — nobody’s judgemental here in America, you don’t have the class system, you don’t have the establishment.” Doesn’t that sound a lot like Harry and Meghan’s statements about their big move?
Meghan grew up in Los Angeles and, according to another source who spoke with the Telegraph, she’s always wanted to return. “Meghan has made it no secret to those in her life from even before meeting Harry [that] she hoped to live on the beach eventually,” the source explained. Reminder: When she met Harry, Meghan was living in the much chillier climate of Toronto, Canada, where she filmed her series, Suits. We can imagine she dreamed about the warmer temperatures — especially while enduring frosty winters!
Although it’s sad Diana can’t be Harry and Meghan’s neighbor, it’s also sweet to see yet another way her youngest son is carrying on her rebellious habit for breaking royal protocol. And we’re sure her spirit is living on in their family in plenty of other amazing ways, too!
