Princess Diana’s Butler Reveals How She Would React to Harry Stepping Back

Paul Burrell shared a letter that speaks volumes.

With all of the drama surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to step back from their official duties, we can’t help but wonder how Princess Diana would react. After all, she was a bit of a royal rebel herself — maybe she would have even helped them pack up their things before they left the palace. According to her former butler, that’s exactly the level of unconditional love and support she always had for her sons.

Paul Burrell worked closely with Diana for a decade before her passing. He’s often spoken up about how fiercely she loved her boys, like the story of their Saturday night TV watching tradition. Now, Burrell has offered another heartwarming glimpse at her motherly dedication.

Along with a sweet image of Diana cuddled up with Harry and William, he shared a handwritten note he received from the princess which read, “I love my boys to death and hope that the seeds I’ve planted will grow and bring the strength, knowledge and stability that is needed.”

Burrell added in the caption, “They are a mother’s words of unconditional love which are as appropriate today as they were when she wrote them over 24 years ago.”

That original post how since been deleted, but Burrell has shared another touching note from Diana and his own message of support to Harry and Meghan:

Diana’s handwriting is a bit difficult to read, but she wrote, “I would look up and laugh and love and live.” We can only imagine she was referring to Harry given Burrell’s photo choice here. He also added, “I feel they are appropriate words to wish Meghan, Harry and Archie every possible happiness in Canada and beyond.”

We couldn’t agree more! These bittersweet reminders of Diana’s all-too-short time with her family definitely make us believe she would be nothing but supportive of both her boys, but especially to Harry as he makes this transition.

Harry is also clearly following Diana’s lead when it comes to raising his son, Archie. Not only did the youngster play a big part in he and Meghan’s decision to step back, Harry has also opened up about hoping Archie has a much less chaotic life than he did.

We understand that it can be difficult when family members move so far away from their loved ones (whether they’re royal or not), but we hope Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the Windsor clan can find a way to be just as supportive to Harry and Meghan as Diana would have been.
