It Happened This Week! 5 Memorable Events, April 24 to April 30, 2022
Oh, the nostalgia of looking back in time! This week in history, check out five cultural events that made a significant impact on our lives.
Crocodile Dundee

Who could forget when the action comedy Crocodile Dundee came to the big screen? The knockout film premiered in Australian theaters on April 24, 1986. Following its release in the US that September, it became the second-highest grossing film of the year.
Pigs in a Blanket

You know you’re from an older era if you remember Betty Crocker’s Cooking for Kids. But did you know that the first record of “pigs in a blanket” came from this book in 1957? The famous snack even has an unofficial holiday — April 24!
Mr. Potato Head

This week in history, Mr. Potato Head became a household name. On April 30, 1952, it became the first children’s toy to ever appear in a television commercial. That was huge back then, because commercials were only ever aimed at adults. Maybe that’s why our generation loves potato recipes so much!
‘Southern Nights’

Where were you when you first heard Southern Nights by Glen Campbell? We can’t remember, but we do know how much we love this song! Everyone else did, too: Southern Nights was No. 1 on the US charts on April 30, 1977.
Bugs Bunny

Did you know that Bugs Bunny is technically 84 years old? That’s right — the iconic character first appeared in a short film called Porky’s Hare Hunt on April 30, 1938. Watch the seven-minute short here!
