Inside HBO’s New ‘Harry Potter’ Series as Filming Officially Begins: Meet the Cast Bringing Hogwarts to Life
Get to know the young stars of the magical new 'Harry Potter' TV series—including one in the original!
Over the past couple of weeks, HBO has shared several casting announcements regarding the highly anticipated TV show Harry Potter. This has included the core trio, several members of the Hogwarts staff and even the Dursleys! And while all of that is super exciting, the streaming service just gave us an even more magical update. The show is officially in production! To celebrate this news, we have gathered up all the must-know information on the cast, including how some of them feel about having been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter

McLaughlin is a child actor whose first role will be as Harry Potter, a part originally played by Daniel Radcliffe. Aside from that, there is not a lot of public information available on the actor. However, according to multiple outlets, he has just finished shooting a film entitled Grow, which also starred Frost, who is set to appear in the HBO adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s best-selling series. That film doesn’t have a release date as of publication.
Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley

Similar to McLaughlin, there is very little information available online about Stout, except that he will play Ron Weasley, who Rupert Grint originally portrayed. Stout is a British actor, and Harry Potter will be his first ever professional project.
Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger

Stanton will bring the smart, book-loving Hermione Granger to life in the TV series. It will be her first-ever on-screen role. Before Stanton, actress Emma Watson played Hermione.
Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom

Rory Wilmot will play Neville Longbottom in the show, a role that Matthew Lewis played in the films. Prior to this Wilmot was in one episode of FBI: International in 2024.
Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy

Everyone’s favorite Slytherin house member, Draco Malfoy, will be brought to life by Lox Pratt, a child actor who has no other credits to his name.
“Slytherin all the way! I’m totally thrilled to be able to share the news that I’ll be playing Draco Malfoy in the new HBO series of Harry Potter,” Lox wrote on Instagram. “Huge thanks to LucyBevanCasting and all the team for believing in me.”
In the previous eight films, Tom Felton portrayed Draco, and it was recently announced that he would be returning to that role in the Broadway show Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. To learn more about this news, click here!
Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy

Since Draco’s most memorable line is “My father will hear about this,” it makes total sense that HBO also announced that Johnny Flynn would be bringing Lucius Malfoy—a role that was previously held by Jason Isaacs—to life. The actor’s other credits include Lovesick (2014–2018), Brotherhood (2015), Genius (2017–2018), Vanity Fair (2018), The Lovers (2023), Ripley (2024) and Central Intelligence (2024).
Flynn is 43 years old, originally from Johannesburg, South Africa and has been married to his wife, Beatrice Minns, since 2011.
Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley

Katherine Parkinson is a 47-year-old actress best known for Doc Martin (2005–2009), The IT Crowd (2006–2013), The Old Guys (2009–2010), In the Club (2014–2016), Humans (2015–2018) and Here We Go (2020–2024). She will play Molly Weasley in the show, a role previously held by Julie Walters.
Parkinson is originally from Hounslow, United Kingdom, and has been married to her husband, Harry Peacock, since 2009.
Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley

Bel Powley is all set to bring Harry’s mean aunt Petunia—whom Fiona Shaw previously portrayed— to life in the TV show. Her other credits include M.I High (2007–2008), Benidorm (2014), Informer (2018), The Morning Show (2019–2021) and Moominvalley (2019–2024).
She is 33 years old and has been married to her husband, Douglas Booth, since 2023.
Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley

Daniel Rigby will play Harry’s uncle Vernon in the series, a role previously held by the late Richard Griffiths. Rigby’s other titles include Big School (2013–2014), Teletubbies (2015 to 2018), The Witchwinder (2022), Renegade Nell (2024) and I, Jack Wright (2025).
Rigby has commented on the casting announcement, writing on Instagram, “Thrilled to be playing the world’s worst muggle, Uncle Vernon.” He is 42 years old and originally from Cheadle Hulme, United Kingdom.
Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley

Amos Kitson will bring Dudley Dursley to life in the TV show adaption, a role that Harry Melling portrayed in the original eight films It will be his first role.
Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge

Bertie Carvel will play the Minister of Magic, Cornelius Fudge in the TV show, a role that Robert Hardy previously brought to life. Carvel’s other credits include Les Misérables (2012), The Crown (2017–2023), The Sister (2020), Dalgliesh (2021–2024) and Walking with Dinosaurs (2025). He also won a Tony Award for his work in Ink back in 2019.
Carvel is 47 and has been married to his wife, Sally Scott, since 2019.
John Lithgow as Professor Albus Dumbledore

Lithgow is an Oscar-nominated actor best known for his work in things like Obsession (1976), All That Jazz (1979), The World According to Garp (1983), Terms of Endearment (1984), Harry and the Hendersons (1987), 3rd Rock from the Sun (1996 to 2001), Shrek (2001), Daddy’s Home 2 (2017) and The Old Man (2022–2024). In the Harry Potter TV show, he will play Albus Dumbledore, a role previously portrayed by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon.
“Of course, it was a big decision because it’s probably the last major role I’ll play,” Lithgow told The Times of London in April. “It’s an eight-year commitment, so I was just thinking about mortality and that this is a very good winding-down role.”
The actor is 79 years old and has been married to his wife Mary Yeager since 1981. He has three children.
Janet McTeer as Professor Minerva McGonagall

McTeer is a 63 year old British actress who can be found in things like Hawks (1988), The Governor (1995–1996), Tumbleweeds (1999), Albert Nobbs (2011), Jessica Jones (2018), Sorry for Your Loss (2018–2019), Ozark (2018–2020) and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (2025). She is set to become Professor Minerva McGonagall in the HBO adaptation. Before that, Maggie Smith portrayed her.
McTeer is married to Joseph Coleman and has two Oscar nominations.
Luke Thallon as Professor Quirinus Quirrell

Luke Thallon is an actor with only two credits to his name aside from the Harry Potter series, in which he is expected to play Professor Quirinus Quirrell, a role originally portrayed by Ian Hart.
Thallon is 29 years old and is originally from London, England.
Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch

Whitehouse is the only TV show actor or actress who has also appeared in the Harry Potter films. Back in 2004, he was cast as the talking painting, Sir Cadogan, in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, but his scenes were cut from the final version. The actor’s other credits include Harry Enfield and Chums (1994–1998), The Fast Show (1994–2014), Happiness (2001–2003), Corpse Bride (2005), Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016), The Death of Stalin (2017) and The Change (2023 to 2025). He was cast as Hogwarts’ groundskeeper, Argus Filch, in the Harry Potter TV show, a role previously played by David Bradley.
Whitehouse is 67 years old and has four children.
Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid

Nick Frost is an actor known for things like Spaced (1999 to 2001), Man Stroke Woman (2005–2007), Hyperdrive (2006–2007), Sick Note (2017 to 2018), Into the Badlands (2017–2019), 3Below: Tales of Arcadia (2018 to 2019) and Skeleton Crew (2024–2025). He will play the Hogwarts groundskeeper Rubeus Hagrid, who Robbie Coltrane brought to life in the original films.
“Thank you for trusting me with such a loyal, gentle and courageous half-giant like Rubeus Hagrid. Robbie, I promise I won’t let you down,” Frost wrote on Instagram after his casting was announced.
He is 53 years old and originally from Dagenham, United Kingdom.
Paapa Essiedu as Professor Severus Snape

Rounding out the current Harry Potter cast is Essiedu, whose other credits include A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2016), Press (2018), Gangs of London (2020–2022), Anne Boleyn (2021), The Lazarus Project (2022–2023) and The Outrun (2024). He will play Professor Severus Snape in the TV series, a role that Alan Rickman previously brought to life.
“An honour and a privilege to be going on this journey with these legends,” the actor wrote on Instagram in April. “We shall eat and we shall leave no crumbs. See you at Hogwarts.”
Essiedu is 34 years old.
