What happened in the first season of ‘The Pitt’?

The debut season of The Pitt was loaded with drama, like any good medical television series, but this show tied in real-life issues and topics in a way that made it a realistic portrayal of life on the front lines. Noah Wyle plays Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, Chief Emergency Attending Physician at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. At the start of the first season, we watch as he struggles with PTSD in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, he’s still working through the loss of his mentor. The first season takes place over the course of one shift, with each episode depicting an hour of the day—and each hour only grows in intensity. With season 2 quickly approaching, we can only imagine what’s in store.

Everything we know about ‘The Pitt’ season 2

Season 2 premieres in January of 2026, and fans can expect another season of intensity as Wyle returns in his leading role. Though plot details are still unknown, we do know the second season will take place over Fourth of July weekend. While the team’s medical skills will certainly be put to the test, we anticipate seeing further developments in their personal lives as well, especially as Robby continues to work through his PTSD. Can’t wait for the premiere? Stream The Pitt season 1 on HBO Max in the meantime.
