Yellowstone is a show beloved for many reasons: the unique family dynamics and character relationships, the constant flow of drama regarding said family dynamics, the ever-looming threat to the land belonging to the Duttons and plenty more. But what if you took all of that, sent it to Australia and made a Netflix series out of it? Then you’d find yourself with something a little like Territory, one of the newest shows to hit the streaming service, making its debut on October 24. Here, read all about the brand new series viewers are calling the Australian Yellowstone

What is the new Netflix series Territory about?

This exciting new drama-filled series puts us smack dab on the fictional Marianne Station—a station essentially being the Aussie equivalent to a ranch, where livestock is raised and produced. Being that this particular station is the largest in the world, imagine how complicated things get when the land is left with no successor. The Lawson family is at the forefront of this series, though this crack in their foundation complicates their livelihood.

“Sensing this once-great dynasty is in decline,” said Netflix’s Tudum, “the outback’s most powerful factions—rival cattle barons, desert gangsters, Indigenous elders, and billionaire miners—move in for the kill. With billions of dollars at stake, everyone wants a piece of the pie.”

Who is in Netflix series Territory?

Key players in this series include Anna Torv, who some may recognize for her role in The Last of Us. The Australian actress is a critical member of the cast, a part of the Lawson family through marriage. Michael Dorman plays her husband Graham, the eldest son in the Lawson family. Robert Taylor, known for his work in the popular western series Longmire, brings to life the family patriarch, Colin Lawson. Though not at the head of Marianne Station anymore after passing it along to his son, picture him as the Australian John Dutton.

Sam Corlett plays Marshall Lawson, another member of the family, with Philippa Northeast playing young Susie Lawson. Some of the additional faces you can expect to see playing an important role in this series include Sara Wiseman, Clarence Ryan, Dan Wyllie, Jay Ryan and plenty of others.

What makes Territory so unique?

While there’s something special about the American West, cowboys and cowgirls in the Australian outback are something we aren’t often exposed to. After all, when you think of Australia, most of what comes to mind is sun-kissed skin and stunning beaches—and that was part of where the inspiration for the series came from.

One of the show’s creators Ben Davies told Netflix that while on a walk on the beach with one of the executive producers, Rob Gibson, the duo “got excited about the prospect of doing a big-scale, high-stakes action drama set on a cattle station; in a part of the country you don’t often see on-screen. It was a complete contrast as we were surrounded by the Bondi crowd, people moving past us in their activewear, wet suits, carrying their surfboards while Rob and I were dreaming up stories about people in jeans, boots, and flannel shirts in the Top End.”
