What is Season 2 of ‘The Buccaneers’ about?
Well, the first season definitely left everyone on the edge of their seats! Season 1 followed a group of spirited young American heiresses, led by the charming Nan St. George, to peruse London’s high-society marriage market. As the group of friends navigate the turbulent waters of British high society, Nan and her friends—including the vivacious Conchita Closson and the enigmatic Lizzy Elmsworth—find themselves entangled in a whirlwind of romance, scandal and self-discovery.

Apple TV+ shared an official premise for season 2: “In the first season of The Buccaneers, a group of fun-loving young American girls exploded into the tightly corseted London of the 1870s…setting hearts racing and kicking off an Anglo-American culture clash. Now the Buccaneers are no longer the invaders—England is their home. In fact they’re practically running the place. Nan is the Duchess of Tintagel, the most influential woman in the country. Conchita is Lady Brightlingsea, heroine to a wave of young American heiresses. And Jinny is on every front-page, wanted for the kidnap of her unborn child. All of the girls have been forced to grow up and now have to fight to be heard, as they wrestle with romance, lust, jealousy, births, and deaths…themes consuming all women of any age, no matter what year it is. Last time we got a taste of England. This time we’re in for a veritable feast.”
The series’ creator shares her excitement!

The Buccaneers is based on the unfinished final novel of the same name by Edith Wharton. And this fact means that the series’ creators will have a ton of creative freedom when planning the direction of the story! “It’s been a complete thrill to watch people all over the world fall in love with these characters, who’ve been brought to such vibrant life by our spectacular cast,” series creator Katherine Jakeways shared in a statement. “We know season one left audiences desperate to know what’s next for our buccaneers, so I’m absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to explore the further adventures of this smart, joyful, messy sisterhood.”
Season 2 cast updates: Returning faces and new faces!
Fans will be thrilled to hear that AppleTV+ confirmed the entire main ensemble cast will return! Kristine Frøseth (Looking for Alaska) will return as Nan St. George, Alisha Boe (13 Reasons Why, Do Revenge) as Conchita Closson, Josie Totah (Glee) as Mabel Elmswoth, Imogen Waterhouse (Nocturnal Animals) as Jinny St. George, Aubri Ibrag as Lizzy Elmswoth, Christina Hendricks (Mad Men, Good Girls) as Mrs. St. George, Mia Threapleton as Honoria Marable, Josh Dylan as Lord Richard Marable, Guy Remmers as Theo, Duke of Tintagel, Matthew Broome (My Fault: London) as Guy Thwarte and Barney Fishwick (House of the Dragon) as Lord James Seadown.

There are some new faces joining season 2, too. It’s confirmed that beloved Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester will join the cast for season 2—but her role has not been revealed yet! Meester revealed she was fond of the series, which makes her casting even more exciting. “The truth is, being a fan of the first season, I was so happy to come on to play any role,” she told TV Insider earlier this year. “That being said, this is the best possible role that I could have ever asked for, and it’s going to be a secret until it comes out. Trust me, it’s worth the wait.”
Behind-the-scenes details: Directors, producers, more
Season two of The Buccaneers will be directed by William McGregor, Rachel Leiterman, John Hardwick and Charlie Manton. Executive producers: Katherine Jakeways, Beth Willis and Susanna White. The Buccaneers is produced for Apple TV+ by The Forge Entertainment.

After season 1 debuted, Jakeways and Willis discussed how Wharton’s novel inspired them so much—and Willis said it all clicked after reading Jakeway’s script. “Well, I think it was probably a love story for the novel and a love story for each other, if I’m completely honest, I’ve been carrying around a copy of The Buccaneers for at least a decade,” Willis revealed in an interview with Screen Rant. “I just always loved her [Wharton’s] humor and her incredible observations about human nature, and of course, the delicious culture clash between the Americans and the Brits that is the heart of the show. There’s something about her writing that when I read Katherine’s, they just clicked for me.”
