From Sutton Foster to Kelly Bishop—see where the ‘Bunheads’ stars have been over the last decade!
From the creative minds of Gilmore Girls and Marvelous Mrs. Maisel comes the series Bunheads, which launched the TV career of Sutton Foster. The show, which only aired for a short time from 2012 to 2013, was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Lamar Damon and has the same fast-paced feel as many of Palladino’s other shows.
Bunheads follows Michelle Simms (Foster), a former classically trained dancer, who pulled a 180 and became a showgirl in Las Vegas. But when she meets and marries a suitor, the two move to his small coastal town in California. Michelle eventually ends up working alongside her new mother-in-law, Fanny (Kelly Bishop), at her local dance school.
Catch up with the stars of Bunheads and see what the cast has said about their time on the show over the years!
Sutton Foster as Michelle Simms

Thoughts on Bunheads: “My favorite show of all time is Gilmore Girls,” Foster shared. “Amy contacted my agents and wanted to take a meeting, and I kind of freaked out…So it kinda came out of nowhere, but I read the script, and it just seemed like such a perfect fit for me and for what I wanted to do next. The opportunity to get to work with her and to say her words — I couldn’t believe it.”
Kaitlyn Jenkins as Boo Jordan

Born: April 11, 1992, Los Angeles, California
Best known for: S.W.A.T. (2019) and The Sunday Night Slaughter (2020)
Thoughts on Bunheads: “Boo and I are alike in so many ways,” Jenkins explained. “We both work hard and have a deep desire to perfect what we love to do. Sometimes it’s weird when I read a script and see Boo handle a situation the same way I would! She and I really connect.”
Julia Goldani Telles as Sasha Torres

Born: March 18, 1995, Los Angeles, California
Best known for: The Affair (2014-2019), Slender Man (2018) and The Girlfriend Experience (2021)
Thoughts on Bunheads: “I wanted to be a professional [dancer] until I was 16, and then I got injured… But I’ve always wanted to act, and then when I got injured, it was a blessing in disguise. Much to my parents’ dismay, I got an agent and he sent me to audition for Bunheads.”
Bailey De Young as Ginny Thompson

Born: September 16, 1989, Sacramento, California
Personal life: Currently married to Tyler De Young and mother to four children

Emma Dumont as Melanie Segal

Best known for: Aquarius (2015-2016), T@gged (2017-2018), The Gifted (2017-2019) and Oppenheimer (2023)
Thoughts on Bunheads: “The audition process for Bunheads was very different from anything I had ever experienced,” Dumont said. “Melanie was definitely a fun role to play. I’d like to think she suited me well, but I really just had a ball getting to dance every day at work.”
Kelly Bishop as Fanny Flowers

Personal life: Previously married to Lee Leonard (1981-2018)
Best known for: Dirty Dancing (1987), Wonder Boys (2000), Gilmore Girls (2000-2007) and Friends with Kids (2011)
Thoughts on Bunheads: “I love the character,” Bishop shared. “I think she is so far removed from Emily Gilmore, and as much as I totally enjoyed that character, this one’s a completely different kind of woman and she has the dance background, which I have, and it just seemed kind of like a nice fit.”
