More than 300,000 Pounds of Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon Recalled for Listeria Risk: What to Know
Find out what you should do if you have one of these meat products in your refrigerator or freezer
Turkey bacon is a great alternative to pork due to its lower fat and calorie content, prompting many people to choose it for their favorite recipes. If it’s your go-to choice of bacon, you may want to check your refrigerator. Oscar Mayer, an American meat and cold cut producer, has sent out an advisory that more than 300,000 pounds of its turkey bacon could make consumers sick due to listeria risk. Keep scrolling to find out more about the turkey bacon recall and what to do if you have one of the meat products.
Why is Oscar Mayer turkey bacon being recalled?
On July 2, 2025, the Kraft Heinz Foods Company issued a voluntary recall of an estimated 367,812 pounds of fully cooked turkey bacon products. The reason: possible listeria contamination that was discovered during laboratory testing for the company.
Though there have so far been no reports of illness from anyone who has consumed the bacon, the recall is being issued as a precautionary measure. (This comes as no surprise after there have been serious listeria outbreaks linked to meat within the last year. One involving Boar’s Head Deli meats in late 2024 resulted in 10 deaths and more than 60 cases of people getting sick.)
What products are included in the Oscar Mayer turkey bacon recall?
Three different turkey bacon items are included in the recall, all of which were produced from April 24 to June 11.
The impacted products:
- 12-oz. vacuum-packed packages of “Oscar Mayer Turkey BACON ORIGINAL”
- 36-oz. packages containing three 12-oz. vacuum-packed packages of “Oscar Mayer Turkey BACON ORIGINAL”
- 48-oz. packages containing four 12-oz. vacuum-packed packages of “Oscar Mayer Turkey BACON ORIGINAL”
Since the company only sells one type of turkey bacon, it’s likely that the majority of the products that have recently been sold fall under the recall notice.
Where was the recalled turkey bacon sold?
The recalled turkey bacon was sent to retail locations nationwide, as well as exported to the British Virgin Islands and Hong Kong. Unfortunately, no further details have been given as to which retail chains were selling the Oscar Mayer bacon products.
If you recently purchased any of the above items at your local grocery store, there’s a good chance that it is not safe for consumption.
What are the symptoms of Listeria exposure?
While no illness linked to the bacon has been reported yet, it’s still helpful to know the signs of listeriosis. This type of food poisoning (which is sometimes just referred to as listeria), occurs when you eat an item that’s been contaminated with listeria bacteria.
Most people recover just fine if they get the infection, but it can be dangerous for people with weak immune systems, pregnant women and anyone over the age of 65. Serious cases may also turn fatal.
Here are symptoms commonly associated with a listeria infection, according to the Cleveland Clinic:
- Chills
- Diarrhea
- Fatigue
- Fever
- Headache
- Muscle or joint pain
- Nausea and vomiting
Severe symptoms may also occur in some individuals, which include confusion, a loss of balance, seizures and a stiff neck.
Generally, you don’t notice symptoms until at least a few days after consuming the contaminated food item, but it can even take as long as two weeks. Since listeria bacteria can impact people differently, it’s not always obvious right away that you’ve been exposed.

If you have already eaten any of the turkey bacon before the recall was issued and notice any serious symptoms of listeriosis, contact your health provider. In these cases, antibiotics are usually needed to treat the infection and keep it from returning. (Note: Mild symptoms generally don’t require treatment.)
