Florida Couple Finds Lost Wedding Ring 9 Years Later in Hurricane Milton Aftermath

The aftermath of Hurricane Milton was undoubtedly devastating, but for one couple, the natural disaster brought them something they never thought possible: a lost wedding ring. We have all the heartwarming details on this discovery below.
The story of the Hurricane Milton wedding ring
On returning to their home in Palm Coast, Florida after evacuating for the storm, Laura and Basil Yorio, with the help of their dog, found something in their backyard that they thought they had lost almost a decade ago.
“I looked down and saw what seemed to be a silver circle. I thought it could be some sort of metal debris,” Laura told Woman’s World. “When I leaned down to pick it up, I saw that it was still partially buried in the ground. I cleaned it off, and realized it was my husband’s wedding ring! I was shocked. Having my husband’s original wedding band is so special to me, my husband, and our daughter.”
Basil lost his ring during a renovation project back in 2015 and after not being able to find it they bought a new one and didn’t think too much about it.
Now, years later, the ring found its way back to them after a lot of heavy rainfall and some good luck.
“When I found the ring last week, I told my neighbors and friends about it. It was so crazy to find this ring after all this time,” Laura explained.
Despite the happy news, the couple is still very cautious about how they share it since their home state is still reeling from the devastating hurricane.
“We felt guilty about sharing our story because of the damage others faced, but we shared it because it was just so shocking. I mean, what are the chances?” Laura continued. “When I told my friend, whose home was badly damaged, she said that the story had made her happy and that at least something good happened.
“When I had spoken to the neighbor we evacuated with, he loved it and said we should contact our local news. I thought it would be weird, but he insisted that people would want to hear a more upbeat story because of the circumstances.”
The couple faces backlash
The Yorios’ story has caught the attention of people nationwide, and while most people find it heartwarming, others have gone out of their way to accuse the couple of faking it to try and get attention.
“It’s hard for a short clip to capture all the details and emotions of what the loss and recovery of my husband’s wedding band has been like for our family,” Laura told Woman’s World. “I try not to think about the negative comments, though it is hard because I guess I am sensitive and not used to this sort of scrutiny.”
“That being said, the comments we have seen we are not taking too harshly. I mean, even our dog received negative comments. Someone believed that the story hinged on our dog finding the ring and that there was no way ‘that dog’ found the ring.”
However, despite the online hate, the couple remains positive, with Laura saying, “Basil and I are happy to have his original wedding band back. We are just absolutely shocked that this story has gotten as much attention as it has!”
