5 Ways to Organize Your Bedroom for Better Sleep
Drift off to dreamland stress-free.
Studies show that a cluttered bedroom dials up stress, leading to worse sleep. To help you out, here are five easy ways to organize your bedroom and get your boudoir looking its best, so you can drift off to dreamland anxiety-free.
Create bedside space with a tray trick
Nightstand crammed with books, chargers, cups, and more? Make use of a coffee table tray to store it all neatly, suggests Jen Martin, owner of Reset Your Nest. “Just keep the tray next to you so you have everything you need within reach, then store it on the floor next to your bed when you’re ready to sleep.”
Outsmart clothes piles with a hook
Everyone has “that” piece of furniture in their bedroom: the spot that seems to gravitationally attract clothes that have been worn but aren’t yet ready for the laundry. “To avoid that mess, pick a location for those items that limits how much can pile up,” says organizer Chloe Hughes of Foter.com. “I use a hook on the back of my closet door — it can only hold a few things at a time before I have to deal with them, and they’re kept neatly out of sight.”
Organize drawers with outfit themes
Consider devoting each drawer to a type of outfit, says organizer Jennifer Major. For example, create one drawer just for workout clothes and another for work ensembles. “This helps you pare down items you never wear and makes getting ready so easy!”
Make your bed in seconds with Velcro tape
Studies have shown that folks who make their beds are more likely to enjoy a plethora of health benefits, including more restful sleep. To breeze through this task, place a strip of Velcro tape at the bottom of your fitted sheet, and the matching strip of tape on your top sheet — fit the two together so the sheets stay in place all night. In the morning, straighten the top of the sheet and the comforter and your bed is made!
Expand closet space with shower rings
A full closet inevitably spills over into your room. One way to maximize the space? Loop a few plastic shower curtain rings on a hanger’s bar, then place lightweight items like scarves onto the rings, says Martin. “Also, look for ‘extra thin’ hangers in home stores — they’ll let you fit up to 33 percent more clothes in your closet.”
