Aries and Taurus: Are They a Good Match in Love and Friendship?

Aries craves change and excitement, while Taurus craves stability and to stay within their comfort zone.

I’m going to keep it real: Aries and Taurus are two of the most stubborn signs. So, is there any chance at love or friendship, or do their oftentimes pig-headed natures mean this relationship is doomed from the start? Whether you’re a bull-headed Taurus interested in making a new Aries friend or a feisty Aries Ram romantically interested in a Taurus, you probably have some questions about the romantic and sexual compatibility of these two signs – and we’ve got the answers. Keep reading for everything you need to know about Aries and Taurus’ compatibility in love and friendship. (Click through to read your horoscope for this week.)

All About Taurus

Taureans are ruled by the planet Venus, the planet of love, money, and earthly pleasures — and it shows. There are few things Taurus likes more than getting cozy in their carefully-curated home, snuggled up with a luxury fleece throw blanket and a few good friends or their latest paramour. Taurus is a fixed sign, and is basically the earthiest of the earth signs — meaning you won’t often catch them with their heads in the clouds. They’ve got their feet firmly planted in reality, preferably an extremely comfortable and luxurious reality. Taurus can see things for how they really are and they aren’t afraid to say it: they’re known for being relatively blunt in comparison to other signs (looking at you, Cancer).

Taurus is represented by a bull, and the symbol of Wall Street couldn’t be more appropriate. As much as they love delighting in earthly pleasures, they also have a strong appreciation for the value of money and the work ethic you need to earn it. Taureans aren’t afraid to put their heads down and work hard for what they want, and often enjoy the work just as much as the reward. (Click through for more on Taurus Zodiac Sign Personality Traits & Characteristics and Taurus Women: Personality Traits and Characteristics.)

All About Aries

The first thing you need to know about bold and fiery Aries is that they come first in the zodiac, and nothing could make more sense. Aries love being number one – whether that means being the first to do something or simply being the best at doing it their own way. They make motivated and confident leaders, and despite their fiery nature, are known for their cheerful dispositions and generally optimistic outlook on life. There’s almost nothing that scares an Aries, which can be both extremely admirable and occasionally an obstacle. Think of your friend who says yes to everything (skydiving, a career shift, taking a trip right after a difficult injury…) and thinks about the consequences only after the fact. Chances are, she’s an Aries. These audacious rams act first and think later, which is why they’re known for being bold and innovative (and for occasionally biting off more than they can chew).

Aries is ruled by the planet Mars, the Roman god of war, and they have the tempers to prove it. These fire signs are infamous for their short fuse, although it’s rare that their anger lasts very long, and in most cases, it comes in defense of a friend or loved one whom they feel is being poorly treated or cheated. Aries have a strong sense of justice, and when they’re pissed off, it’s best to stay out of the way. It luckily won’t be long until their otherwise sunny disposition has returned. (Click through for more on Aries Zodiac Sign Personality Traits and Characteristics and Aries Women: Personality Traits and Characteristics.)

Taurus and Aries Compatibility in Love

So, can the fire and earth sign make a relationship work? Like any two signs, they have their difficulties to overcome. Venus-ruled Taureans love to be in love, while Aries is known for being the sign of passion — meaning that when these two come together, their relationship is likely to be explosive (in a good way). The chemistry between them can be off the charts, and their passion for each other will quickly take the reins. Aside from their initial connection, Aries and Taurus can build a strong relationship on the basis of complementary traits. A Taurus man or woman is known for being patient, grounded, and steady; again, earth signs have their feet firmly planted on the ground. These traits can be exactly what a fiery Aries man or woman is craving in their life. Often, Aries will come to see their Taurus counterpart as their rock, providing the comfort and security they may be unable to provide for themselves.

On the flip side, Taureans often look up to bold Aries as a leader, providing the energy and spontaneity they might lack in their own lives. Aries is great at making everything more exciting, including a relationship, and they’ll play a big role in the passion and energy that make a Taurus-Aries pairing so mind-blowing. If Taurus encourages Aries to slow down and add some consistency to their life, Aries pushes Taurus to take risks and live a more exciting and fulfilling life.

Potential Problems Areas

This isn’t to say that these two signs might not run into difficulties. In fact, you’d be hard-pressed to find two more different signs. While opposites can (and do) attract, there are also bound to be inevitable bumps in the road between such distinct and different personalities.

For one thing, Taurus likes to take things slow, both in a relationship and in their day-to-day. You can convince a Taurus to go out on the town or throw a party, but they’ll definitely take the whole next week to recover. Meanwhile, Aries can’t wait for the next big thing. They thrive on fast-paces and change, and this difference between the ram and the bull can lead to issues in the relationship. The key is building a bond of mutual respect and communication. A Taurus-Aries pair will frequently have opposing desires, but if they can communicate those desires successfully and learn to respect and value each other’s opinions, they can usually work past most conflicts.

Aries and Taurus Compatibility in Friendship

Passion is a huge part of the dynamic between an Aries and a Taurus. But how does that play out in friendship? Unfortunately, without the explosive chemistry that forms the basis of attraction between an Aries-Taurus romantic pair, their differences might be much more obvious and difficult to work past in friendship. It’s not impossible for Aries and Taurus to become good friends, but it definitely requires work and compromise from both parties.

The main difficulty here is that these signs will almost always want opposite things. As previously stated, Aries craves change and excitement, whereas Taurus craves stability and to stay within their comfort zone. Aries is constantly thinking about what comes next and is prone to impulsiveness, while Taurus is fully grounded in the present. The physical attraction and love that blossoms in a romantic relationship might allow the pair to work past these differences, but in a platonic friendship, it will be harder to balance these fundamental incompatibilities. One way that this relationship can be successful is if both parties openly recognize their differences and commit to learning from each other.

We often want our close friends to share our hobbies and to become passionate about our passions. With an Aries-Taurus relationship, though, each sign will have to put aside this desire and commit to trying new things for the sake of the other person. If they can be patient and trusting, they might be able to deepen their friendship and learn more about themselves in the process. Doing so definitely takes time, though, and commitment from both signs. It’s not impossible, but it definitely isn’t as easy and intuitive as some other astrological relationships may be.

Written in the Stars?

Aries and Taurus are two very different signs. Whether it’s worth the effort each party will have to put in to form a meaningful and lasting relationship will depend on each person’s personal experiences and willingness. Still, the relationships that take the most time and effort to build often become the most meaningful. After all, it’s one thing to have a great friend fall into your lap and another thing to like a person so much that you’re willing to work on strengthening your bond with them. So, whether you’re trying to befriend your new Aries coworker, thinking about starting a relationship with a Taurus, or just trying to deepen an existing connection, consider this your daily horoscope: don’t give up. This relationship might not come as naturally as others, but that may make it even more valuable.
