Copper Price Today Is at Record Highs—Here’s How to Cash in on What You Own
From old appliances to jewelry, discover which copper treasures could earn you serious cash
You may have already heard about the rise in gold and silver value, but that’s not the only metal that’s seeing a spike—copper prices have also hit unprecedented levels. This means that it’s not only a great time to sell gold and silver pieces that you no longer want, but copper too! With the copper price today through the roof, you may be wondering just what items could earn you some serious cash. Keep reading to learn more about potentially valuable copper goods and how you can sell them for top dollar.
Why copper prices are soaring right now
Gold and silver prices have seen record highs within the last year and now copper is following suit. The highly conductive metal has reached a new high of $14,268 a metric ton, reports Reuters, and this may just be the beginning.
So what’s behind this boom? “With copper prices on the rise due to an industry demand and some global market shifts, metals that used to be seen as affordable are gaining new attention,” said Chip Smith, Chief Marketing Officer at JTV, an online jewelry shopping destination.
Copper in particular is crucial for power and construction, making it a valuable asset–especially in the U.S. That’s likely what has sparked investors’ sudden interest, most of whom anticipate there will be strong economic growth. If our country sees a boom in construction, manufacturing and electricity use, metals like copper will be more in demand than ever.
Even more good news: You don’t have to be an investor to reap the benefits of the high copper price today. If you have copper at home, this could be a good time to sell and earn big!
Everyday copper items that could pay off big
With the metal especially valuable now, you may be wondering what copper items you could sell for significant cash. Right now, experts say that copper bars, 10 oz. increments and copper rounds are some of the valuable goods in this market.
“The reason to own bullion (metal in a form of standardized weight) is that it is easy to sell and trade to the public as opposed to just owning copper wires,” shares Jose Gomez, co-founder at Summit Metals. “All copper bullion is measured exactly as advertised and thus provides the trust needed in the public to buy and sell it.”
Last year, however, bare bright copper wire and copper tubing were commanding high prices, so it’s possible this pattern may continue into 2026.
One potential hiccup? You likely don’t have these items laying around your property as is. But old appliances like refrigerators, washing machines, coffee makers and microwaves may contain them, so it can be smart taking any worn-out appliances to a scrap yard instead of just disposing of them.
But that’s not all! Other household items—whether they’re made entirely of copper or just include a trace of the metal—have the potential to earn you money.
You may also want to try selling:
- Old electronics
- Copper cookware
- Copper roofing and gutters
- Copper jewelry
“From a jewelry perspective, copper has been long prized for its warmer hue and a unique stylistic appeal that a gold or silver doesn’t usually give off,” explains Smith. “Rising metal prices, though, are starting to influence the interest in the resale of copper—jewelry pieces with significant amounts of copper, especially those with fine detailing or substantial weight and embedded gemstones, could become more attractive to buyers and sellers as the metal itself continues to gain value.”
How to sell your copper for the best price

If you have a piece of copper on your hands that you believe is worth money, experts can determine the copper’s grade (the purity and condition), which will impact its value, and give you a quote.
For wires, pipes, circuit boards and motors, your best bet is reaching out to a licensed and insured scrap yard. Scrap yards weigh your metal on certified scales and pay you based on the copper’s weight and current price per grade, but some will also shell out more for bulk loads.
Copper bars and rounds are a completely different industry, however, so your next step is to have a bullion dealer or coin shop to take a look at your goods. They will typically pay a premium above scrap price, so you’re more likely to get a larger payout.
As for copper jewelry? Those pieces will shine brightest when sold on online marketplaces, to antique stores, or to consignment boutiques—though don’t hesitate to contact a jewelry store, too. Though copper pieces may not be as popular as silver or gold, the more intricate finds are likely going to get the most attention—and the most money!
The bottom line: Take a look around your home with fresh eyes. That forgotten copper treasure could be your next financial win.
