Viral TikTok Teacher and Surgeon Video Sparks Debate Over Truth Behind the Touching Moment
Is the viral TikTok moment between Mrs. Chamberlain and Dr. Derek heartwarming—or staged?
In today’s world, there is no shortage of bad news; sometimes, we only need a good pick-me-up. A high school teacher named Mrs. Chamberlain seemingly offered a tear-jerking, heartwarming story to people worldwide. However, months after the video was posted, people began to poke holes in the story and even called it fake. Keep scrolling to learn why her full-circle moment with a former student is going viral and why people are calling it satire.
The story behind Mrs. Chamberlain and Dr. Derek
Posted on TikTok by user Bertha Dixon—@berthadixon1–the video shows an older woman supposedly named Mrs. Chamberlain as she reads a letter written to her by a former student while in a hospital bed, causing people to believe that she is recovering from surgery.
After reading the first paragraph, Mrs. Chamberlain’s supposed doctor and former student—who people have since named Dr. Derek–walked into the room and sat behind her. She then continued to read with tears in her eyes, unaware that he was there.
Mrs. Chamberlain shared that her former student had generously covered the cost of her surgery and then proceeded to finish reading the letter before turning around and hugging Dr. Derek and telling him how proud she was of him.
Naturally, the video caused people all over the world to cry and praise the two for bringing such light and goodness into the world. Now, though, people have since begun to notice some holes in the story and have since called the whole thing fake.

Why people think the viral video is fake
The video, posted in September, has since received a lot of publicity. Still, Mrs. Chamberlain’s and Dr. Derek’s first names remain a mystery, which is just one of the many things people have noticed seem off about the video.
If you keep scrolling on Bertha Dixon’s page, you can see that the other videos are completely satirical and unrealistic. The user also posted several videos in a hospital, which seemingly have the same background, bed and even scrub colors.
They also noticed that a woman in a video posted after Dr. Derek seems to look eerily similar to Mrs. Chamberlain and even has the same hairstyle as her. But, in that video, the woman is somehow a nurse and looks fully recovered from her surgery, which is very medically unlikely.

While most of the comments are in admiration of how heartwarming it is, others call foul writing things like, “That lady did not just have life saving surgery in full hair and makeup, and there’s no way she didn’t realize someone walked in right behind her,” and, “She doesn’t have a wristband on…. And dude is wearing gloves into the room and touching stuff.”
Woman’s World also got an anonymous tip, claiming, “That woman is wearing a wig which is visible enough. She and that guy are nearly in all their acting videos.”
“She is the one from the University popping into a classroom uninvited calling out for the student who applied at the University giving him a scholarship. Then she is the woman who comes home, gets scared of the black guy sitting at her entrance of the home holding her little dog that run off and he found it. There are plenty of videos out there of them and popping up on Facebook. It is just acting material. Nothing else.”
Woman’s World reached out to the creators of the video for comment and so far they have yet to respond to confirm or deny whether the video is true or false. In the meantime, the video remains on their TikTok page.
Tips for identifying fake content online
With so much information flowing on social media, good and bad, it is always important to check where the content came from and see if it’s been posted on more than one site by more than one person.
It is also important to do some digging to see if that source is trustworthy and reliable. In the case of Bertha Dixon, the other videos on their TikTok page seem to be staged videos that reuse backgrounds, costumes and sets, which led to viewers and journalists alike to poke holes in the verity of their videos.
