Key Takeaways

  • Dianne Mayor, 65, launched Rent a Grandma to bring extra love and support to her community.
  • All grandmas are CPR-certified and background-checked for pet care, nannies and more.
  • This unique service provides emotional connection and warmth that standard agencies lack.

Having never experienced a grandmother in her own life, Dianne Mayor always felt a void. Wanting to make sure others didn’t miss out, she devoted herself to starting a business where anyone can have a grandma lend a helping hand and add smiles to their day. Here, she shares her story with Woman’s World.

A grin spread on Dianne Mayor’s lips as she gazed down at Liliana, her newborn granddaughter, asleep in her arms. I’m so proud to be your grandma, Dianne’s heart whispered.

With a desire to help other new parents, Dianne went on to become the first certified postpartum doula and newborn care specialist in her hometown of Henderson, Nevada, and in Las Vegas.

In 2009, she launched Newborn Angel Care to dedicate herself to the cause.

But after a car accident in 2017, she was forced to cut back and work part-time. Even then, she thought of ways to fill the itch inside to help others — like a grandma would. She began brainstorming a way to expand and offer services — not just with babies, but with pets, daily tasks and companionship.

What if everyone could have a grandma’s TLC? she wondered, feeling on the edge of something big.

Filling the void

At a time when most others her age were retiring, 65-year-old Dianne went full speed ahead with her idea. She found an agency in California called Rent a Grandma and reached out to the owner, Todd Pliss, who was once on Shark Tank. She expressed a desire to partner with him and establish a Rent a Grandma in Las Vegas.

“It would be a way to bring extra income to grandmas while supporting the community with their love,” she said. Seeing it as a win-win, Todd gave her the go-ahead, and in 2025, she set up her own business, following her heart and feeling excited for the future.

Dianne began to recruit her team of grandmas through social media and word of mouth to serve as nannies, pet sitters, eldercare companions, personal assistants and provide laundry services.

They all come background checked, fully vetted and bonded and certified in CPR. Each grandma also offers a wealth of life experience and skills, along with providing a sense of warmth and caring that makes them feel like family.

“Now everyone can feel a grandma’s special touch!” Dianne proudly beamed, seeing her business flourish.

Grandmas to the rescue

To date, Dianne leads 58 grandmas throughout the Las Vegas Valley, lending helping hands and caring smiles. When an eldercare client was in the hospital, two of the grandmas assigned to him went to visit on their own time, which touched Dianne’s heart.

Everyone who uses the service reports they are happy and inspired. “Rent a Grandma Las Vegas went above and beyond to find us sitters who are kind and treat my son like family,” one client boasts. Another client says, “I’ve been using Rent a Grandma as a pet service and Grandma Dana has taken care of my animals with great care.”

Dianne embraces every positive review, seeing how her business is doing more than just the basics — it’s a way to bring families together through genuine care. A concept she knew would make a difference has become her life’s work.

“Being the owner of Rent a Grandma Las Vegas has given me confidence in myself that I never had before,” Dianne shares. “I’ve fulfilled a great need in my life by helping others. It’s truly never too late!”
