Nothing is much sweeter than the bond between a child and their pet, but the extra special connection between a little boy and his new pooch recently added a whole new level of cuteness to that equation.
When Brandon Boyers walked into the Jackson County Animal Shelter in Michigan a few weeks ago, he wasn’t looking for a dog. Instead, he wanted to check out a couple of chickens he was thinking of bringing home. His mind shifted after he noticed a small puppy with a cleft lip — the very same condition his two-year-old son, Bentley, has.
He gave his wife, Ashley, a quick call and she immediately told him to “bring her home today.” This wasn’t just great news for Bentley, who was about to meet his new best friend, but the shelter workers who had started to worry the puppy wouldn’t find her forever home after being there for about a week.
“They were head over heels for each other right away,” Ashley told Washington Post about her son’s first time meeting the dog. “Everyone started crying.” Bentley named his new friend Lacey and recognizes what they have in common. “He knows that the dog has the same condition as he does. He understands,” Ashley explained. “It is remarkable to see him share something in common with the puppy.”
Take a look to see Bentley snuggling Lacey before bringing her home:
Did you tear up hearing Bentley say “this is my puppy” at the end? Yep, same here. If you think you can handle if more preciousness, take a look at the photos the shelter shared of Bentley giving his new pooch hugs and kisses:
Aside from just how adorable they are together, the connection between Bentley and Lacey was clearly meant to be. Lydia Sattler, the director of the shelter, explained to Washington Post, “The fact that this is something we never see, the puppy came from 1,000 miles away and that Bentley’s dad just happened to be here at that moment, it was just amazing.”
We love that these two are going to grow up together sharing tons of love and happiness.
