I don’t know about you, but I love perfume. More than that, I love collecting perfume. Unlike other beauty products, perfume holds a special place in my heart because of the memories it can hold and the places it can transport you. With each bottle that joins my collection, it feels as if I’m attaining a physical manifestation of some of the best moments from the scrapbook of my life. One of those such scents is Maison Margiela’s Replica Beach Walk ($28-$126, Sephora)

When I first stumbled across this fragrance it nearly knocked me over. Not because it was strong and overpowering, but because with one whiff, I traveled in time and revisited the sun-drenched Floridian beach vacations of my youth. Now I know that may sound a touch dramatic, but it’s a not uncommon statement from those who experience the perfume (and many others from Maison Margiela’s Replica line) for themselves.

One Sephora reviewer called this perfume “perfect nostalgia” writing, “This scent literally brought me to tears. It reminds me of something from my youth that I can’t quite pinpoint but with a glamorous, feminine waft to it. It makes me profoundly happy and somehow sad, like I’ve lost something or forgotten something important. It’s not at all like the alcoholic, stiff scents you typically find, and to me, it’s special. A new must have.”

So, how would I describe this scent? You know that first step you take onto a beach or boardwalk where the smell of ocean water, salt, sand, and sunscreen hits you like an intoxicating wave as you take in those first rays of sunshine? It’s that, but in a bottle. As for the actual notes, Beach Walk is made with a blend of fresh, summery notes like lemon, coconut milk, and heliotrope, alongside classic warm notes like bergamot, pink pepper, ylang-ylang, and musk that only add to its nostalgic presence.

If there was one perfume I’d recommend to you for summer, it would be this one. Not only because it quite literally smells like summer (though that is a big part), but because I feel this perfume will become one you will hold close to your heart for the moments it’ll come to represent. Finding a scent like this is rare — so when you do, it should be cherished and savored.
