4 Fall Makeup Tricks to Look 10 Years Younger

Tags:

Runway makeup looks are usually so over the top, they’re not wearable — much less flattering. “But this season, many designers came up with gorgeous, wearable fall makeup with the added bonus of making skin look smoother, eyes younger and lips fuller!” enthuses celebrity makeup artist Berta Camal. Here’s how to make the new ways to use makeup to look younger work for you.

Create dewy skin and a peachy glow.

Fall runway makeup fashions put the focus on the eyes and lips by first creating a canvas of soft, luminous skin to surround them. “Gone are those super-matte textures that highlight imperfections, thankfully.” Camal exclaims. “Instead, we saw a lot of foundations infused with nourishing facial oils, and shimmery peach cheeks. It’s a combination that anyone can wear — and everyone looks younger when they do.”

Mix up a luminous skin cocktail:
To achieve the same soft, dewy skin texture, mix a few drops of facial oil (such as Yves Rocher Beauty Elixir, $23.50, YvesRocherUSA.com) into your foundation before applying it. “This helps the foundation glide over the skin, keeps the makeup from settling into instantly boosts the skin’s radiance,” Camal explains. Her recipe: 1 drop of oil for every dime-sized dollop of foundation.

Make your eyes sparkle with maple eye shadow.

When you sweep an amber shade on your lids, just above the crease and along the lower lash line, it gives your eyes a candlelit glow — making them look brighter, whiter and more energized!

If your skin is fair: Choose a rosy-amber shade (such as L’Oréal Infallible Eyeshadow in Amber Rush, $7). The touch of pink within the maple color flatters your skin’s cool tones.
If your skin is medium or dark: Pick a coppery-amber eyeshadow shade (such as Mary Kay Mineral Eye Color in Amber Blaze), that brings out those beautiful golden tones in your skin.

Uplift your eyes with cat eyes.

One of the most popular looks on the fall runways were cat eyes. That soft upward tilt visually lifts the eyes, counteracting sagging while giving the eyes pretty definition.

Want a smoky look? Sweep a matte charcoal shadow along your upper and lower lash lines, extending the color upward at the outer corner. Afterward, gently blend the color outward with a clean brush.
Want a soft, subtle look? Use a deep-colored, soft-textured eyeliner pencil and dot the color within your lash line. Then, at the outer corners make a tiny, up-turned wing.
Want a dramatic look? Look slightly downward, and place a liquid eyeliner tip at the inner corner. In one smooth stroke, follow your upper lash line, creating a small upward tweak at the outer corner.

Accentuate your lips with glossy red color.

Afraid of a red lipstick ? Don’t be! This red lip trend has a sheer texture, making your lips look plump and juicy in understated, wearable soft scarlets.

Pick your perfect red: If your skin is fair, glide on a sheer cherry-red lip color (such as Yves Couleurs Sheer and Shine Lipstick in Gelée Cerise, $7.50, YvesRocherUSA.com). This berry-toned red instantly wakes up a milky skin tone. If your skin is medium or dark, sweep on a sheer brick-red lipcolor (such as Revlon Color Burst Lip Butter in Red Velvet, $6.69). The hint of cocoa in this red flatters the warm tones.
