Dry, dull skin and hair loss are common problems that arise as we age. And while it sometimes seems like time isn’t on our side when it comes to beauty, it turns out that nature has all the solutions we need to keep ourselves looking and feeling great — all we need to do is embrace them! With this in mind, we present to you rosemary essential oil, a cheap, natural, and effective solution to skin aging and hair loss.

What is rosemary oil good for?

Rosemary essential oil is extracted from the rosemary herb native to the Mediterranean. The herb itself boasts several health benefits from enhancing concentration and mood to easing pain.

Essential oils are highly concentrated with the compounds which make the plant a vital healing ingredient, and like hair growth supplements, this oil has long been touted in the beauty world as a great solution for hair loss and aging skin.

Rosemary oil is loaded with antioxidants which prevent and reverse the oxidative damage done to skin cells which contributes to the signs of skin aging, like fine lines and wrinkles.

This oil is also known to increase circulation, which means it can help to reduce the appearance of under eye circles and puffiness when applied topically (with a carrier oil, of course!).

And what’s more, rosemary oil has shown to be effective in soothing inflammation associated with acne and breakouts on the face.

Is this oil good for hair loss?

When it comes to haircare, rosemary oil should absolutely be incorporated as a part of your routine. There are a few ways that it works for hair loss.

First, it’s an anti-inflammatory which helps to keeps hair follicles healthy and inflammatory scalp conditions like dandruff at bay. Additionally, the carnosic acid found in rosemary oil has also shown to promote nerve growth, and healing the nerves on the scalp can encourage healthy hair.

Androgenic alopecia is a condition which causes hair loss in both men and women. With this condition, a byproduct of testosterone blocks up hair follicles causing them to weaken and hair to fall out.

Rosemary oil has been shown to combat the symptoms of alopecia by preventing that byproduct from attacking your hair follicles. In one study, rosemary oil showed to be just as effective in reducing hair loss as minoxidil, the active ingredient in hair growth products like Rogain.

What’s more, the oil didn’t cause the side effect of dry, itchy scalp commonly experienced by those using minoxidil!

Can I put rosemary oil directly on my skin?

To use this oil for your hair and skin, it’s pretty simple and you can do it in a few ways.

Since the skin on your face is so sensitive, dilute your oil by adding a few drops to a carrier oil like jojoba or coconut before applying topically to areas like underneath the eyes.

You can also add a few drops to your moisturizer

For your hair, you can purchase haircare products infused with this essential oil like this shampoo from Majestic Pure (Buy from Amazon, $11.88. Otherwise, you can use a few drops of rosemary oil directly on the scalp.

Apply the oil to the crown of your head and massage thoroughly into the scalp. Leave the oil in, or, if your hair feels too greasy, leave it on overnight and wash as usual the next day. Do this twice per week for best results.
