WW Book Club: The Best New Books June 12 – 18 Focus On Love and Intrigue

The best books transport you somewhere else. And these days — when it can sometimes feel like bad news abounds — there’s nothing more soothing than picking up a good book (preferably one from this week’s list of book club picks) and escaping it all.

Sifting through Amazon’s long list of reading options and strolling the crowded aisles of bookstores can be tiring, though. I tend to trust the book recommendations of friends more than anything, but I’m willing to try strangers’ suggestions if they are also avid readers and writers like me. We hope that you consider this site a trustworthy source, even if we aren’t your “friends,” per se. And we do swear we’re genuinely enthusiastic about reading!

In this week’s book club picks, Woman’s World suggests a cozy mystery, a romance, a family saga, and a helpful non-fiction offering. Go read outside in the sun, if you can.

A Midsummer Night’s Fudge by Nancy Coco

This witty, delicious whodunit stars fudge shop owner Allie McMurphy. After attending the Midsummer Night’s Festival, Allie takes her pup home before the fireworks go off, and she spots a body in the lake. She realizes it’s Winona Higer, who had just been crowned the festival’s “queen.” The next day, Allie is recruited to be a parade judge, and now she must watch for clues to find the killer!

Desperately Seeking a Duchess by Christi Caldwell

Readers are taken back in time in this sweeping historical love story. Heiress Cailin Audley doesn’t quite fit in with Polite Society. Her parents send her to the English countryside to find someone to marry, but she has no interest in any of the men there — especially not the Duke of St. James, Courtland Balfour. But soon, Courtland finds himself deeply drawn to Cailin. Will true love follow?
